Hi AK members. Never done this before, but thought I'd give it a shot. I write audio reviews for Wired. I find the audiophile subculture fascinating and enjoy interviewing people who are passionate about their music hardware/software. It's a fantastic hobby. This is old school home theatre at its best. Head bangers will be pleased to know that Howard always ran his McIntosh MC2505 at "11."

Very cool, Rene. I am a subscriber and follow Wired on Twitter. I read your hot stamper article and then checked my collection for RL LZ but no dice.....I will give these a read.

Interesting. He could afford what he wanted, but I wonder about his hearing after the aircraft testing period of his life. Being somewhat impaired myself, I can listen and hear more better and with more enjoyment thru my home system as it's constituted than otherwise. Hearing aids weren't particularly good until not that long ago, ok for conversation in quiet envirements but not so much for music as most folks hear it. Modern ones are almost miraculous.
 
Looks pretty much like a gigantic custom hearing aid set-up.
I like Edgar Villchur's approach better as I and millions of others benefit from it, but that's for another thread.
 
It looks like you've republished word for word most of an article on HH that has been available for years.
 
That's a little harsh. I read both and the wired article is a very much stripped down version of the second author's first-hand account.

Same story. Written entirely different.

Now I'll think of him when i hear those brands mentioned, and that sux because i fancied those brands previously.
 
I'm someone who hates the way that journalists nowadays lift an article from another place, put their byline on it and run it without acknowledging the prior source. The practice is rife and it isn't journalism and it gets my back up.

With that having been said, I am now offering my unreserved apology to Rene. In the article he states that he interviewed Roger Tolces. I decided that there was only one way to be certain. Ask Roger Tolces. So I did. Roger just now(in the last 5 minutes) replied and confirmed to me that he was indeed interviewed by Rene for the article. Hence my apology offered at the first opportunity(now). I will leave all of my previous remarks since they reflect upon me and I never back away from what I've said. What has been said, has been said and I acknowledge that. I will eat crow and take responsibility for my statements.
