Howdy from the PNW!

Hey everybody! I'm 29 and have been lurking on here for a few years but I decided to make an account today. I love the hobby and really enjoy the hunt for new vintage equipment.

I'm originally from the East coast and have had the luxury of being able to buy a bunch of AR, KLH, Advent, Boston, and Cambridge Soundworks speakers for really cheap. Man, do I miss those estate sales. That's part of the reason I wanted to sign up here. There isn't much of a scene where I live now and the estate sales are WAY over priced. It's like discount eBay with free shipping vs garage sale prices.

Sadly, I sold everything I had, minus my AR 4x's and custom built tube amp. They paired so nicely I didn't want to part and I was wary of finding classic New England speakers on the other side of the country. Glad I did because I've only seen one pair of AR's at an estate sale here. I forget what they were but the company wanted $150 for them. In Boston, they'd be $60 tops.

Happy to be officially be apart of the community now. With that being said I have a few questions on where to post questions I have. I found a pair of Sansui SP-50's earlier today for $20 at Goodwill. If I were on the east coast I would've passed on them. I'll take what I can get nowadays.

I'd like to try and replace the woofers and tweeters with something more modern to be able to play hard rock through them. What sub do I ask hardware questions like this or if it's even possible to do this?

Cheers everybody!

Hello from Vancouver Island...
Where in PNW are you?

(PS. I don't use subs so I can't assist in that department...)

Welcome to the AK. Come on in.
No subs here either but for 25 bucks you can become a subscriber and then Barter Town will be available to ya and should help you find some of that elusive gear your searchin' for.

Welcome to AK!
I’m also in the PNW in Lewis County, WA.
As far as the appropriate sub-forum... there is a speakers forum that may be appropriate to post some of your questions.
If you want to swap drivers you’ll need to figure out your cabinet volume and narrow down your options from there. Most likely you’ll need to build or buy a new crossover as well to put the correct frequencies to the new drivers.
Crossover building questions can probably be answered in the DIY forum.
Once again, welcome to AK!

Welcome.

You can ask (speaker) driver substitution questions in the speaker forum.
I believe that was your question.

If you're near me, we should meet.
I have stuff.
