hpm-100 midrange replacement

Greetings fanatics,

Still searching for the next great amp/speaker combination, I picked up a pair of HPM-100s yesterday! I've wanted to try these for some time, since I've enjoyed a a pair of HPM-40's for years now, and the 100s should match up well with my Marantz 2285B.

$100, just reasonable considering the beat cabinets, cat-shredded fabric, missing logos etc and one blown midrange. They are the 100/200W version, with the 10-721B-1 mids. Anyone have a spare around, or suggestions for a replacement pair that might even be an upgrade? Some spare logos even?

Also, which mids from other HPMs truly fit? Oaktree says the 700 and 900 mids are good, but I read otherwise somewhere on AK while looking to see if this subject has been covered before.

I look forward to hearing from all you HPM lovers!:thmbsp:

I know, what hasn't been said about the HPM-100... But, I'm sure people out there have experimented with this before, since blown mids apparently are not uncommon in these speakers. It would be nice to find some options on AK instead of ebay, come on guys...

Mids from a trashed pair of boston acoustics a150's fixed my hpm 100's blown mids. The screw holes line up perfectly and I think the mids are somewhat smoother now.

I think I spotted your earlier post about the A150s in my search this morning. Nice suggestion, one of few I found. The best thing to do of course is to find exact replacements, but in a beat up pair, it's all good. For these, I don't mind using whatever is most easily available that works well.

Yes exact replacements would be the way to go if there's a choice. I used what I had on the shelf at the time and it worked out fine. If I had to drill new holes or other wise mess up the cabs I would've searched for originals as well. I also did the same thing when one of the cone tweets went south. Popped in a dome replacement and I'll be darned if that wasn't quite a bit less harsh than the original. I know some hpm owners probably cringe at the idea of non originals. I figure they are ubiquitous mass produced speakers so I don't feel as though I'm ruining a "classic." I'm quite happy with the sound of my franken hpms and have no plans of looking for original replacements now.
