HPM-150's, Wrong Woofers

dmusgrave

HPM Fan, No Apologies!
I have a shot at some Pioneer HPM-150's, big brothers to my much loved HPM-900's.

Here is the issue. They have replacement woofers. I've seen HPM-100 and even HPM-900 woofers on ebay, but never HPM-150 woofers.

If I can get them "cheap" what are my odds of being able to find the specs on the original woofers? If I can find those specs, what are my odds of being able to find a replacement woofer with specs close enough to sound "right?"

Hey that's cool... I have that bookmarked now.

I'd have to buy the thing and send it to somebody to test their speakers though, I don't think anybody in my neck of the woods has any HPM-150's :(

I don't think it would be too hard to find someone here on AK to do it for you.

The tester isn't exactly cheap but may come in handy for other projects and would be a lot easier than trying to guess what to put in the cabinet.

Call Parts express and ask them, they'll be able to recommend a couple of excellent options for a given application.

Ahhh good suggestion. I emailed Pioneer... I doubt they tell me much!

You may be surprised. PE is really big on customer service. I think you should call and ask to speak to one of their techs and he can guide you through the process.
There is also a link on their page to their forum and also I believe to chat with a tech.
They are very knowledgable.

Pioneer support is pretty good? Or Parts Express? I figured Pioneer would be too big to offer much support... I could be wrong and hope I am :thmbsp:

My mistake.
Misread your post the first time.(getting late)
Parts Express is usually great.
Don't know about the Pioneer but suspect your first impression was correct.
They probably will say too old to keep info on hand.

Take care

PE rocks.

I ordered a set of Goldwood "heavy duty" 6 1/2" woofers, nice little driver for the money, when the box arrived I thought gee, that's an awfully big box for two little woofers. They shipped the 12" cast frame behemoths instead.

They overnighted the correct ones, and while I was waiting for a return tag to be emailed to me, they called and told me to just keep the 12's for free.

Now THAT is customer service!

Keep your good eye opened. Those woofers are on ebay quite often, I know i've seen them at least 3 times since october 07

Well Pioneer has them, almost 200 bucks a piece.

If I can get the QTS, VAS, and FS on them PE can help me!

And Pioneer can't provide me with that information, just the "overall" specs of the woofer.

Would that software give me the specs needed I wonder?

Anybody got some HPM-150's they'd be willing to measure?

Anybody know a place on line I could find the specs perhaps?

Thanks!

Have you checked the Pioneer forum here. Lots of spec sheets and stuff in the database. You may get lucky.

I have a set. I'd be willing to help out.... Just let me know what is needed...

Thank you sir! If I can get the QTS, VAS, and FS on them PE can help me get something the same or close, hopefully cheaper than Pioneer.

I may have to buy that software to get those numbers though? I'm afraid I'm not knowledgeable about the techincal stuff :sigh:
