HPM-500 and HPM-700 Speakers ...

This morning I picked up a pair of HPM-500 and HPM-700 speakers ... unfortunately they have some issues but the investment was minimal.

All 4 speakers need surrounds ... the woofer cone in one of the HPM-500s was broken ... the vinyl walnut veneer cabinets are in pretty good condition ... the grill covers are in very good condition (a HPM-500 badge is missing) ... the serial numbers are BF 49360 U and BF 49383 U (June, 1981) for the HPM-500s and BC 19903 U and BC 19889 U for the HPM-700s (March, 1981).

I will probably part out the HPM-500s and put new surrounds in the HPM-700s (I read in another thread that the graphite cones break easily).

Guess the interest level in these HPMs isn't very great ... saw in another thread where several members have the switched the mid's in HPM-900s with the mid's in HPM-100 ... since the HPM-700 has the same mid as the HPM-900, I may give that experimant a try ... I have two pair of HPM-100s so maybe I'll stack them so I can A-B them.

The graphite cones are VERY brittle. I cracked one during the refoam process and ended up using epoxy to patch the crack.
I'm also interested in your impression of the mid range experiment on the 100's.

You're becoming a HPM fan. What's up with that? If you're not, at least you'll find out for yourself what they are about.

Now you have the tweeters and mids to try in the 100's.
