HPM refoam experience?

Anybody out there who could share some hpm woofer refoaming experience?I'm preparing to refoam my pioneer hpm-900 woofers, my first experience at refoaming. In looking around the forum I've found a lot of helpful information, but I wonder if I might get some speaker specific tips from those of you who have done refoaming jobs on the hpm's with the brittle, black cones? It would be great to have some step by step that relate to my particular woofers.

BE VERY CAREFUL.

OK, now that we've got that out of the way :D...

They're really not any more difficult than other woofers... other than the somewhat-fragile cones. Just take care to not overly flex or pull on the cones, when cleaning off the old foam and glue residue, and you'll be fine...

Regards,
Gordon.

Would there be a preferred method for cleaning the fragile cones? Any particular instruments, techniques or solvents that have worked?

I did a pair of the 12" brittle cones (DSS-7 speakers) and you use the same tools, process as any other driver, you just have to be super careful- one slip and you are done. I use a small, sharp chisel to clean off the old surround, then wipe with alcohol, then glue.

After getting hosed on my HPM-1500 refoam job I decided to tackle the 900s myself. It was no big deal really. As Gordon says...Be careful. Take your time and you'll be fine. Just used my fingers and friction to remove the dried up glue. I've taken to using the d-battery to center voice coils but I honestly can't remember if this was the case with the 900s. Good luck. You can do it. :thmbsp:

Thanks for the encouragement. Wow, will the D battery really work to center voice coils as the surrounds are glued on?
