Hum from Aux Input Using iPod

This may be a really dumb question, so please forgive me. I have an old Luxman LV-105 amp that has an AV input on the front labeled 'AV 2/Aux". This is the only auxiliary input that the amp has. Normally I use my iPod on another device, but connected it tonight with an RCA-to-3.5 cable. I've noticed that it hums through this input at higher volume. I tested the cable in to the CD input and it was perfectly quiet. Is it likely that it's a cable grounding issue, or should I not be using that input? I'm using the audio inputs only with nothing in to the video.

Edit: I tried an 3.5-to-AV RCA later. Same deal. I'm just going to live without a CD player.

What does the cable lay by/come in proximity to when using the front jacks vs. jacks (presumably) on the rear?

If you tested with the CD input and the same iPod and RCA-to-3.5 cable and it was fine, the problem is probably something related to the the input or the input socket themselves. Check the AV 1 and AV 2 inputs on the rear panel to see if they are affected. AV 2 is a duplicate of the input on the front panel, switched with a button next to front panel inputs - even that button could be the source of your problem.
By the way, was the CD Straight button depressed when you tried the CD input? If yes, you should test all line inputs with this button out.

Also, all the inputs in your Luxman except PHONO have the same sensitivity (150 mV), so you can use any of them for iPod.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I tried the rear AV1 input and the hum was still there. It doesn't affect the CD or tape inputs. I actually tested with the selector buttons both in and out. With the AV buttons disengaged, there is no hum. The amp was just given a clean bill of health, but I don't think he tested the AV stuff. It is mainly used to run my turntable as the Phono stage is excellent.

Its an impedance issue with the cable. My computer plugged into AUX or TAPE on my Pioneer SX-880 has a volume adjustable hum to it also (always has, I just live with it).
