Hum in speakers won't go away. Please help!!

Hello AK world. Long time reader first time questioner.

I 'm having an issue with getting a loud humming sound coming through my speakers during play. I've changed receivers, turntables, speaker wires and even speakers. The hum is not noticeable during normal song play, but is definitely annoying during quieter parts of songs and in between tracks. I read a bit on wifi routers causing interference, so unplugged the wifi that was nearby, but the problem still exists.

So far, the most intriguing thing, is that the noise goes away when playing the radio function on the receiver. The hum only appears once the receiver is switched to phono stage. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Specifics:

Receiver: Yamaha CR-820 & Technics Early 80s, not sure model number at the moment

Turntable: Technics sl-220 and Pro-ject Debut Carbon

Speakers: Technics R&B Series & Rodgers FR 1.7

I’m wondering if it has anything to do with a ground (perhaps a grounding issue?)

So I did think it could be grounding, but both times I set up different receivers I connected the grounding wire to the grounding portal. Is there anything more that needs to be done to properly ground the turntable?

Do any of your components have a 3 pronged power plugs? If so, are they all plugged into the same wall socket or separate ones? If separate, try plugging them all into the same wall outlet to eliminate any ground loops.

What a surprise
The hum may be due to way the turntable is wired, due to the phonostage or the turntable.
The first thing I would do is disconnect the turntable and put shorting plugs onto the phono inputs of the amp and listen for hum. If it acceptably low the phonostage can be ruled out as a problem. If it hums, the phonostage is the problem. It could just be that something else containing a large mains transformer is too close to it.
Still, you probably don't have any shorting plugs.

Then I'd connect the turntable. If it hums I'd check that the turntable wasn't so close to something containing a mains transformer that it's picking up hum from it.
Then I'd check the turntable wiring.

Your receivers are chassis grounded, not earth grounded. Run an additional ground wire from your turntable to an earth ground such as the screw for the outlet cover.
