Humming Noise From Technics SL-DD 33

Hello,

recently purchased a technics SL-DD33 turntable. It looks to be in excellent condition and I really like the way it works. Except for one problem - when I turn on my amp, a fairly loud humming noise comes from the speakers. I connected the ground wire, and it reduced the humming noise by about half, but it’s still pretty loud.

when I play a record, depending on the music (quieter track, not a lot of instrumentation) I can hear the buzz come through. Any thoughts on why this is? My turntable is fairly close to my speakers, could this be the problem? the speakers are also fairly cheap, but when I plug my phone directly into them via aux, I don’t get this loud hum.

Sounds like a bad ground. Maybe the ground wire isn't connected properly on the turntable side.

The ground wire is connected properly into the turntable, but maybe the cord is faulty. Although, before I bought the cord, I was using a makeshift one and it reduced the hum the same amount this cord that’s specially made for the product did.
The person who sold it to me says they never even used a ground wire, and never had this problem. Any idea what else it could be?

Things you can check:

1. Cartridge wires properly connected
2. Stylus fully inserted in cartridge
3. Clean RCA jacks from turntable
4. Reinsert RCA jacks into preamp/Phono IN

Also look for sources of interference. Power bars, cords which are running alongside or jumbled among other cords, turntable close to the amplifier (especially the power transformer side), other things running on the same wall circuit.
