I am going to have to marry this one

Significant other and I have been considering getting a place together for quite a while however the right place popped up (spotted a 'Apartment for rent' sign during the blizzard) very quickly and before we knew it, it was ours. Right now we're cleaning up and painting, preparing to move our stuff over on Friday. Last night she fields an interesting suggestion.

"I'd almost like to have the stereo off to the side, with it's own seating, like a dedicated listening station".

:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

I mean yeah sure, I had fantasized about that but I had not really thought that would have been a possibility.

So of course I said "Hell yeah!". We don't even have a TV yet so that makes it easy to start with anyway. I'm going to take the top divider out of my 2x2 Expedit for her Yamaha R-S201. On top will go my Technics SL-D2. My Pioneer BS22's will flank the Expedit resting on maple finish Sanus stands ($30 CL score). My headphones and the preamp and amp and AR Holo Image speakers are going to go in the den with my desktop but for a living room system I'm really excited. We both took off on Friday along with my best friend (her best friend's husband) and we're getting a truck and moving everything in. Can't wait!

Sooooo, how big is the apartment and how much room will you have for your dedicated listening station?
Congrats on the next step. Be sure to make her a big part of the listening station decisions.

No pictures yet. I'll be working on squaring all of it away on Friday night.

Um, it's not pictures of the listening space we want...

Oh, never mind. Congrats on the new digs, and the fine woman. Treat her right, and remember, relationships are about compromise. (Sorry, but years of lessons learned force me to be an old man giving advice to young men....)

Ah, man, let him enjoy it for a little while.

Your right I shouldn't piss on his parade. LOL I'm just an old dog, been there, done that, and have a crap load of tee shirts. To the OP, good luck to ya. Enjoy every minute. While you can. Oops did it again!

Well, you know, not all of them are so understanding!
This summer my wife peered into my shop, a 3-car free-standing big old shop, during the summer, and said...'What are you doing with all this crap?", referring to all the acquired stereo gear in different stages of use or repair.

So, I banned her, but last month set up a HK330B in the living room for her. Not my listening space, but every time I look at it the balance control is almost all the way to the left. She hasn't figured out which knob is the volume. Maybe I'll put a big old piece of duct tape on it, she'll remember that!

Have fun setting up the new apartment!!

Dear young and foolish: just wait and see how fast that listening room becomes a nursery.

Mine became a nursery in less than a year after I got married. It doesn't last long. LOL

Evan, congrats on moving forward with your sig. other. I wish you the best and all the happiness that it brings.

might as well go with the the wall shelf option while you still have time ...sand the corners of any shelf edges at or below toddler eye level and resist the temptation to leave speaker grills off when you hear the rumble of tiny feet...
aside from that...a definite keeper ! Best wishes.!
