I bought a Mac system that looks like it will need a lot of work

Yes, start a thread on the restoration. I have an MC-30 in the basement that needs all the same I guess, I haven't looked at it in a few years. Other equipment down there has faired very well.

My MC-30 is paired with a C-8 which is not looking good. It is upstairs. Maybe I need to go mono for one bedroom system.

You sound like you're up for the challenge, & have some finances to support the effort. If you end up spending $1000 you will still have a VERY nice system! Plus, I'm sure you'll learn lots along the way and in the end have the satisfaction of bringing these around yourself. :tresbon:

I have always wanted to do a complete restoration on a decent system.
My wife must think I am nuts for buying this setup.
Just in the last two weeks I have picked up a C32, an MR77, a MC2505, a MCD7008, and a Pair of Bozak Concert Grands.
I havn't owned Mac stuff for about 15 years.
I recently got bit by the bug bad.

So do I start with the MC30's?

I think I will start with the 30's, so get your amp out and follow along.

Actually I was waiting for the comment about that sentence, it was fun reading it.

I will get the MC-30 out tonight. Hope to see some easy to follow 'restore by numbers' posts soon.
 
MC30 is a good starter to rebuild, you can go minimal with just the bias supply, next a new filter cap, then all capacitors, and for the masochist all resistors.
Here are 2 that I am rebuilding.....And I clipped a line cord to them, loaded in a good set of tubes --they work !!, even still sound good.

Those give me encouragement that mine will be worth a rebuild.
I was planning on the full monty. All caps and resistors. I will probably rechrome the chassis and have them silk screened.
I will make a final decision as to cosmetics when they arrive.
Do you have favorite brands of caps and resistors?
 
Holy crap Terry! Those came out ok? Did they go through a fire? These two amps certainly qualify for a classic "before" picture!

That should sound really great when done, I remember seeing that I was going to bid but I had asked the seller a question and when they said it was in a boat? I thought thats where all the rust came from. I was really just wanting the cabinet. Was that a custom built? I looked for the new thread and couldnt locate. Hope it ariived well as a Dr friend of mine purchased a 2100 and ebay pix were great. However packaging was horrible I think it was in a single box for tissue or something and unit was hanging out a couple of inches. Put a huge dent in cage. I guess my friend didnt think it would hurt and he plugged it in anyway and sparks galore as it shorted to the x-sistor sink. He removed and beat the dent out.

Well the boat would explain all the rust. I was told they were stored in a attic for a long time.
The preamp cleaned up very nicely and was sold on ebay. It is on it's way to Japan.

The cabinet was a home made one and didn't survive the shipping well.
I am listening to one of the amps as I restore the other one. I will do the second one when the first one is done.
I havn't even looked at the tuner.
