I bought a Sansui auction lemon please advise!

I had really been saving up to get a big boy G off the auction site. I was looking for a 160 watt per channel model. I wanted a turn key plug and play. Got a G 8700db. Got it in and man o man was it impressive looking...much bigger than my other brand receivers....with lots of lights and silver! Well when i hooked it up the protect light came on.....jeez. So i chose not to send it back...opting for the shop hoping it would be a simple fix. First pass from the shop they got it out of protect but i noticed a couple switches did not work properly. I also noticed the sound was poor thru speakers. Back to shop. This time switches work but sound is still poor. FYI everything has been checked as far as plugs, source, speaker wire, ect......all good. Sound is decent at low volume levels but as you turn it up it starts distorting and will kick into protect mode again. I am disable and have to rely on the shop for repairs. My current investment in this receiver is around $600 total counting trips to the shop. Time to put it away in the closet? Does this sound like a tough fix? Your input will guide me on how to proceed.

Hmmm, I'd stop going to THAT shop.

It should have been fixed the first time.

Depending on what they did the first and second time, the rest of what should have been the original fix should be simple. But, they failed to fix it twice so its hard to say what is really wrong, still wrong ro wrong because they "fixed" it.

Sorry for your problems. This is why people lose interest in vintage.
Where are you? Perhaps someone knows of a good shop or tech near you.

What he said. Based on photos of the internals, there's nothing mysterious there and it looks easy to work on. Find another shop.

I agree with others. It should only need to go to the shop once to get it fixed right.
Give us you location, and someone may be able to recommend a place local to you. Many of us could repair it for you, but the shipping, to and from, can get excessive.

Thank you all. I do agree it is time to find another shop. I have a Marantz receiver i plugged in since i wrote the op and guess what.....back from 2nd trip to same shop....still not fixed. I am half way between Birmingham and Huntsville AL in a town called Guntersville. Birmingham area would be better because i have someone who lives in that area who drops them off for me but anything is doable between Birmingham and Nashville. I do have the a couple of other shops that have been given to me but, no experience yet with them. I spent close to 1k with the old shop over the last eight months and don't have a ton of fixed product to show for it. I think i still have a warranty with them but i am just not sure that matters since they have not been able to fix yet with two passes. What is reasonable and customary in cases like this? I would like to find someone i have confidence in because i have some fairly extensive repair projects on a couple of other pieces upcoming.

Hopefully others can help you locally in that I am located quite a bit further north of you in NYC, and from the sound of things, shipping is not possible, so that eliminates me.

Can anyone in AK help lakegville by recommending a really good solid state tech near Birmingham?

I am disappointed to hear of the poor service given to the OP, as here is someone disabled who could well do without being taken advantage of. Not clear how much has been paid for repairs alone, but to get it back not properly fixed sounds like shoddy service to me.

Maybe i need to get set up for Bartertown. I put a couple really nice, top shelf receivers recently on the local CL for around market value and very few nibbles. I am thinking that these higher watt vintage receivers i have may have a smaller market? I have never sold anything but would hope to not get to far from break even if i sold ....each shop trip makes it tougher. Thanks for your responses.
