I broke my cast MC250 emblem - how to remove

Hey all!

Sooo...my MC250 emblem was bent and I tried to bend it back - and it broke. Awesome. To make matters more painful, the guy who makes repros (AArtifacs or something), doesn't make one for the 250.

So my question is:
How do you remove the emblem? Is it wedged in or clipped or what?

Because it was a clean break, my plan is to JB weld the pieces together and call it a day. Especially because I can't source a replacement.

There are two "flat nuts" that slide onto the 1/8" studs on the emblem. They are designed to be "one-way", so can be difficult to remove. Use a thin screwdriver on the inside of the chassis to coax them off the studs.

Took off the bottom cover last night planning on removing the emblem to really do an isolated good job on the jb weld.

Those one way nuts are legit and I gingerly tried to remove them, but inevitably chose not to remove them. The last thing I want to do is scratch things up more or bend the nuts to the point where they don't serve their purpose anymore. There's nothing worse than attempting to fix something and causing more unobtainium problems. Aka how I got into this mess.

For now, I put jb weld between the pieces and clamped it down to set. We shall see. Tonight or tomorrow I will sand the joint and get some of that BBQ rustoleum people talk about and touch up the spot.

I like the idea of the trophy shop. Will they be able to cast the new one in the hard steel like the original or will they resort to the plastic stuff trophies are generally made with? Even though in order to get the emblem to the shop I'd officially have to remove those 3 one way nuts...

And even though I'm obligated to advocate for myself, I understand why only the heavy hitter emblems are being reproduced. The lowly mc250 can't compete with the mc240 or mc275 restoration and price wise.

Regardless, this is my first Mac piece and it's in mint condition...other than the customized logo :( And I really like my stuff to be mint and as original as possible, so I was super bummed when I did what I did. So all the help from you guys is always much appreciated. Being only 31, I missed all the fun when this stuff initially was all the rave.
 
They made more than twice as many Mc240s as Mc250s, but it was much closer between the Mc250 (7,883 units) and the Mc275 (8,610 units).

Ok. So I JB welded the pieces together and then sanded the spot a couple days later.

I bought some flat oil based enamel stuff and used a art brush to paint it. It looks ok. I wish the oil based stuff flattened better but whatevs.

As I was working I tried to sand out some scratches made by the emblem when it broke. Unfortunately, I have a hazy spot and two overly shiny spots. Everything is supposed to be a uniform satin.

Can I tape over the emblem and try and spot spray some of the Krylon BBQ spray paint? Or will I get an uneven mess and have visible lines from where the painters tape would be?

Why not get a small artists brush and paint the flat bar? A lot easier than messing with overspray and all that. Put some blue painter's tape on the chassis and you are set.

Thanks for the reply. I'm trying to fix the hazy chassis paint below the emblem.

I typically remove the emblem and sand, primer, and paint the bases of any amp built on this chassis. It'll look new.
 
Never fear... I am currently working on producing the Mc250 emblem to add to my selection of reproduction Mc emblems.

We will make sure Craig gets a brand new one to replace his broken emblem.
