I broke my Technics SL-1400

Got a lovely SL-1400 on craigslist last week. Really in great condition. Got a cheap cartridge, put a record on and noticed the speed was hard to control. No problem, I've done my research I know this can happen. So I bought a can of deoxit for the pots and 3in1 blue for the motor. Disassemble as instructed, deoxit all of the necessary components, and reassemble. But now when I move the arm over to start the record, I get the familiar click but no platter spin and no orange light. Any suggestions for a next step?

I'm inclined to bring it in for repair, but maybe there is something easy I'm missing here. Any help would be appreciated.

dumb question, did you plug in all the multi-pin connectors when you reassembled?

Also, if you leave the speed control halfway between 33 and 45 on my SL-1650, the platter will not spin (I believe this position is deliberately intended for use so you don't have to unplug the table to use a stylus force gauge)
 
Thanks for your reply. I will open it up and double check the connector pins.

I was hoping it was the speed control as I had left it in the middle before the process started, but unfortunately turning to 33 or 45 gets me no result.
 
Can't comment on what is happening specifically, but i can relay an experience that I had with my Mitsu. Turns out I had pulled a wire just enough out of a bad solder joint for it to not make a connection while removing a tonearm, so auto off wouldn't work. Everything looked fine. I panicked thinking it was a circuit problem or a resistor I had knocked off. I just redid and inspected all connections that I had worked on and it came back to life. Just re-check your work and check all connections with an Ohm-meter. Problem's I create myself always seem to just be dumb mistakes and not complicated issues.
 
Yeah, if the table worked fine before, it's highly likely you created the problem and it's not just a coincidence. Just wait till you're well rested and relaxed and go back in and look. It's probably a simple mistake. We've all made them.
 
Thanks for your replies everyone. I had a suspicion that it was fuse related so I replaced that today. Lo and behold the guide light now glows orange. Unfortunately the platter tries to turn a little, then gives up. There's a noticeable hum as it remains on. I'll crack it open again and have a look at the connections as suggested. Happy to hear any other insights though.
 
So the strobe light turns on when you move the tonearm over? (And off when you move it back?)

Did you spray some contact cleaner on the speed selector switch?

Maybe pull the power, then remove, and securely and firmly reseat the platter. There ain't much that can go wrong with these tables.

That is correct. Both on and off functioning. I did spray cleaner on the speed connector.
 
Thanks for the advice everyone. I opened it up again this weekend, sprayed some more deoxit in there and am happy to report it is up and working.
 
good to hear. when i got my sl1500, 33 1/3 wouldn't stay steady and 45 wouldn't turn at all. deoxit did the trick.
