I cannot log into Chat, somebody please help me

Too Much Power!
I dug out my laptop for my trip north and unbeknownst to me, I cannot log into chat. For what reason, I have no clue. I have updated my Java program and installed as prompted, and it is showing as enabled, but for some dabgummed unknown reason, I cannot get into chat. every time I click on it, it comes up as saying I need to download Java to run this program. I have been trying all afternoon to fix this thing and I am just about ready to :uzi: the darn thing. Anybody else having this problem?

I have Windows Vista operating system. The thing is, the last time I used my laptop, it was working all fine.
