i've been on the fence about this piece since i got it. kenwood is not my thing usually but this amp has a real elegant look to it that i cant get away from. despite its dirty faceplate, it just exudes style. dig the function lights in the black strip dividing the top and bottom of the faceplate. its just classy.

i got it from a guy that was gonna strip it for parts. pretty much free. i was just going to swap it to a kenwood collector for something i liked but its just soo darn elegant looking i've decided to recap it and keep it for now.

i have a friend that's a woodworker and i'm gonna ask him about building a cabinet for it. for some reason i think a dark wood, if not black cabinet would look sexy on this piece.

except for the power cord, it's 100% original and still works! another reason i've decided to hold onto it is that its the only piece of audio gear i own released the year i was born.

i just need to find covers for those toggle switches now.

:thmbsp:Nice amp. I've got one on the shelf with a bad power switch...not the electrical portion but the mechanical half. It won't stay in. I've been searching for about a year for one. No luck.

power section has been recapped soo far and so has the amp driver board. i'm awaiting a pair of 6800uf 50v caps so its got 2200uf 50v in it right now in the power supply section. its still quiet. im sure if turned up the hum may come in though. i also replaced those old style epoxy rectifiers with modern silicon. face and knobs are off and going home with me for a scrub down in the kitchen sink.

this amp has an odd way of hooking up a large cap in the power supply section that can wreak havoc if you're not paying attention. one cap is wired in backwards i guess for a negative voltage. its right there in line with all the others and everything looks normal till you notice the ground lug on the cap is tied to positive. real easy to screw that one up if you didnt take the time to mark things before tearing in.

Man, it is great to see one of those again.

I had one new back in the day (1973 or so).

Loved it at the time.

I had one a year ago that ended up having issues. It was a beautiful piece and do miss it.

I have a KA-6004 with the matching KT-6005 tuner. They sound very good. I have the same issue, I'm missing the ends to most of my toggle switches.
