I'm on a quest for a balance pot for my C2. I bought a Kenwood 'for parts' amp, KA-791. I reviewed the s/m and this one is a 200k (like the C2). I paid $9.99 +s/h.
Hifi Engine says:
I checked the fuses (good), added a new power cord and powered up on DBT. Dead. Someone has been in this amp (always scary) since the bottom plate pins were cut. Looks like the PS caps where touched up.
I touched up a few solder joints on the transformer secondaries to power supply and powered back up on a DBT. Standby light is lit. Hit the power switch and display lights up and relay clicked in. Checked DC offset - 5mV/1mV.
Connected speakers, cell phone, powered up on main power, and it is playing music. Let it play music for about an hour. all pots are quiet. My remote (RC-120 for my KC-209) even worked. I don't think I'll get a RC-140.
Checked bias and was a little low. Adjusted bias to factory settings (18mV) and i've been playing music all evening.
I tried to give it to my son but he didn't want it. oh well. I cleaned it up, waxed the faceplate (nice aluminum anodized finish) and knobs. kind of BPC but sounds nice. It goes on the shelf.
this is my second 'sold for parts' kenwood that was a pretty easy fix to get working.
BTW, the balance pot is not the small one like in the C2 and is too big. The quest for a c2 balance pot continues...
