I hate to admit this. (Bose content.)

I just fired up these little Bose 201 II's that I got in a huge "group" sale, awhile back. Dang if they don't sound good. In a small speaker kind of way. At medium to low volume, they actually have decent bass. I think they'd shine with a sub. But that's not what they're meant for. For near-field purposes, they're cool.

This is really gonna put a chink into my Bose-bashing armor.

I had an enlightening moment many years ago in a record store in Joliet. While browsing the records I noticed that the music being played in the store sounded pretty damned good. When I looked around I saw the speakers were Bose 2-ways with, oh, maybe 8” woofers.

I had a pair of Bose 6.2 Direct/Reflecting Everywhere Speakers I really liked years ago wish I still had them.If I remember they were 2-ways with 6.5 " woofer had a good solid sound.Myself I think what a person prefers in brand, size and placement is up to what sounds best to them regardless of opinions."To my Ears be True"Just enjoy the Music !!!

I've got a old pair of them and they have been a definite lock in my line-ups. Get some new gear etc.. and play it thru them till I found my
desired sounds. I would compare them to my old Zebco 33 reel..Handy and to my ears ..honest.

I used a set of 201 Series ll for almost 20 years as front mains for HT and for stereo. They are excellent for small to mid size rooms, when I sold mine I instantly regretted it.

Restored and enjoyed a pair of Bose 601 series 2. Told guy that I wanted first dibs if he sold. We're still in communication, and despite also selling him various pairs of JBL's (L46's and L100T's with T3 upgrade) THESE are the ones I still ask about.

Bose usually uses cheap drivers, but implements them in a brilliant way.

Indeed. I’ve heard quite a few audiophile speakers that used expensive drivers in ways that...well, didn’t suit my taste. Quite a few speakers using Focal tweeters made me feel like that guy in the movie Seven Beauties who went to “better ****”. Say what you want about Bose but a Bose speaker never made me want to leave the room.

Love my 901's, my 301's and even my 161's. Yeah, Amar used inexpensive parts, but he used them well, to deliver good, musical sound for not a lot of money.

I've always thought of 501's and 601's as being, uhm, weird. But I'm not sure I've ever actually heard them. But now, I've heard 201's. They really aren't bad.

Funny, I was thinking of the 201s I owned when I read the title. Same as was already said, I too used a pair for many years on my av system.

Bose speakers have their own Bose EQ treatment. No harm in that. They've sold a lot of speakers and other equipment based on that. Bose just gets knocked by audiophile purists who only respect flat response speakers. No harm in that either. If that's your goal, Bose isn't for you.

But all kinds of music can be enjoyed on all kinds of gear that the purists wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole. Once again, no harm in that.

Enjoy what you you own or sell it. That's the only rule, IMO.

Unfortunately Bose does take a good bit of undeserved "bashing", mostly by people with little or no experience with the brand.

While not the "ultimate" in quality, materials or sound, they are usually inoffensive and go about their business without drawing attention to themselves, kind of like the Toyota Camry or Honda Accord of speakers.

The "Coffee House" speakers of America!

They just have a nice sound in large open spaces such as coffee houses and brew pubs etc.

You throw them up on shelves and they fill the room with good sound.

I had a set of 301 series III that I sold to an eager buyer and kinda' miss the little buggers!

Those little speakers could also handle some power.

Easy to sell and hold their value too.

There is too much Bose snobbery on audio forums.
If you like them, then great, have fun!
If not, then....well.....:dunno:

I have a pair of 601-iis.
They are terrific speakers.
The very definition of tight punchy bass and really pleasant to listen to.
I cannot use them much.
My cranky neighbor downstairs hates them. :-)

I had a set of 301's that I recapped and cleaned up.
Lots of folks really like them.
For some reason, I could never get attached to them.

Hearing is such a subjective sense.
