I haven't seen this before. Botched fix

This was an unpleasant suprise. Someone has attempted to fix this CS 3110 with some kind of sticky black belt dressing. What a mess. What would have been an easy belt change is now a mojor clean up job. Fortunately, it looks as though alcohol will remove the stuff. YUK!

Are you sure that is belt dressing and not the remnants of the belt? I've had several TTs and CPs with that god-awful mess when the old belt disintegrates. Sucks.

No, it is fresh gooey painted on something. Very sticky. You can see brush marks where the fixer over lapped on other parts.

I was given a Marantz 3020. When I opened it up pieces of the belt were all over the place. Looks like someone tried to wipe it out. Still on the bench the bench waiting.

That's a nice mess!Hopefully you can clear all that crap off.....Looks to be pretty clean inside otherwise.

I remember reading in another thread where a person had applied belt dressing to keep the tuner's threads from slipping. Seemed like a big mess in that situation.

Man...that sure looks like the old belt crap. Maybe someone previously tried to wipe it off and that caused the brush marks? :scratch2:

It does look just like a Marantz 5025B I've got...

It looked like the belt was just wrapped around there, but upon touching it smooshed (technical terminology) into a tar-like mess. It stayed on my fingers for days...
