I hope to find NEX head unit help

Hi everyone!

I’m excited to be a part of this forum. I’ve always had an interest in audio, especially car audio, and hope to develop my technical skills by being a member of a forum like this.

My reason for posting, I currently use a Pioneer 8100NEX in my 2007 Mercedes SL55. It was installed professionally several years back. It’s been glitching lately, and I’m hoping to find a compatible upgrade that wouldn’t require a wiring harness upgrade nor new soldering. I was looking into either the w8400NEX or w8500NEX, but I’ve received conflicting information from a few audio equipment vendors. I’ve seen pictures showing different wiring harnesses from the 81xx to 84xx model, yet I’ve been told that they should be the same.

Can anyone help me with this? It’s coming into peak social distancing driving season, and I’d love to have a new, functioning head unit in my roadster.

This isn't a car audio forum, so maybe you won't get much help here.

I also have an older NEX, a 2330, that glitches sometimes (long reboots) but to be honest with you, it only does that every so often, and several times in a row. I think it may be updating itself through my smartphone BT connection.

I too have been considering an update, Pioneer will be releasing the new 9" DMH/NEX series soon. As far as I know, Pioneer has always maintained the same rear connector. Prior to my NEX, I had an AVIC D2 in my truck. When I put the NEX in, it was "plug-n-play".

Contact Crutchfield, they are usually very knowledgeable on these questions.

Thanks for your reply! They’re also coming out with the 10” head unit, super interested in that as well.
