I was shocked when I emailed the seller earlier this week and these were still available. I emailed him tuesday night, and aparently I was the first one to set up an apointment which was for 10am today.
I made the trek up to milwaukee today. when I got there the guy was on a conference call and his wife was supposed to show me the gear. I got a bit nervous when they told me the gear was in their enclosed porch but when I saw them in person my fears subsided. the speakers looked to be in fine shape and then I noticed behind a stack of chairs were two large boxes. "do those belong to the speakers?" 'yes, my husband is very good about keeping the boxes for everything.' I was so excited I didn't even notice that on top of the stack of chairs was the box for the carver. she turned on the receiver and the speakers came alive. "wow, is that really the fm tuner?" I was shocked at how clear it was, I guess carver really was a genius. on top of the receiver was the original manual. "do you by any chance have the manual for the speakers?" 'look inside.' I flipped open the carver manual and inside were the two manuals for the jbl L100t speakers along with their warranty forms. well I was going to talk them down a bit, at least for a gas discount but I decided I better just pay up.
at this point the owner pops in and starts chatting a bit. he bought these in germany while in the military. he's been moving around alot and doesn't want to keep lugging them around the country. while I'm loading up my car he tells me he realized he underpriced after the response he got. I told him they were going to a good home. this guy was nice to me. he was willing to wait for me to come up friday, and even after he figured out these were probably worth more he didn't jack up the price. I'm glad I didn't haggle.
the speaker are in great shape. the receiver needs some pots cleaned and there's a bit of a hum when the speakers are connected so that will have to be figured out but I think I did pretty good. I was thinking about selling the carver to pay for everything but I think these have been paired for so long and they've been all over the world together that I just might have to keep that too.
