I need a cartridge for my Thorens TD 320

Hello,

I was hoping that someone could give me a recommendation for a suitable cartridge for this turntable. I believe the arm is a TP16 Mk IV. I'm looking to spend around 400 dollars. Any ideas? All information is appreciated.

Hi,
I have a 320 with a TP16 mk IV. I use an Audio Technica AT440ML OCC, no longer available and replaced by the AT440MLa.
If I were to do it over, I'd ask myself this question - Do I have a bright system? If the answer is yes and you like that, I'd suggest an Audio Technica 150MLx. That's essentially a 440ML with beryllium cantilever. That should do the trick.
If the answer is yes and you don't like that, something more mellow would do.

If the answer is no and you want that, again the AT150MLx.
If the answer is no and you don't want that, something more mellow like a Grado will do you well.

Thanks Don. I looked at some information regarding the AT150MLx and it looks pretty good. Any thoughts on a Sumiko blue point special? A couple of other people recommended that one. Thanks again. It's so nice to be able to ask for help on things like this.

I have a Thorens TD320 and I use an Ortofon OM30 cartridge. Sounds very good on the TD320! A friend has the same turntable and he uses a Grado Gold cartridge which he is also happy with.
