I need some help to find this connector:

Hello. I need some help to find this kind of connector, or at least to know how are they called. IA says they are probably aviation connectors.

They are used in a micro tape recorder (picts attached). Brand seems to be "Evershed".

Do you know the maker of the recorder? If so, that might be a lead to finding out the connector name and source.

You come across some interesting equipment Elnaldo. I'm guessing it belongs to a private investigator, or a spy? :biggrin:

Boy, that was harder to figure out than I thought.

It appears to be a LEMO 1S type circular push-pull connector. Used on old ARRI equipment. Measure it and figure out the exact one, they're still made:

Wow, $64 each, plus import taxes (approx +80% in my country), that makes this option "economically unviable".

Down here we are thinking to replace the connectors with TA4M & TA4F connectors, similar to the Shure wireless mics transmitters. Easier to source and way cheaper.

I wouldn't. That recorder is valuable and very rare. Keep it original. I think original is more important than working, with something like this. Where would you get 1/16" tape anyway? You cannot really use it, only demonstrate

Why not try and 3d print if you want to be creative? Or take some pins and sockets from a sub d computer conbector and just make wire test leads to try it.

Once you get it sorted, you may find some old recording of a government investigation, or wire tap on it. :biggrin: it is a very cool bit of history for sure though.

You could figure out which is ground with a continuity test to the chassis, and which is signal by probing with an oscilloscope grabber probe holding a bit of resistor lead and touching the various pins. Then replace that probe with a pin or socket, and output to an amplifier.

It's amazing what cool things a technician gets to see. I could see James Bond using this recorder. I wonder what the run time of that tiny little tape is. I hope someone brings me something like this one day!

It will be very funny if you play the tape and find music!
 
I'm guessing the tape itself is rather thin so that there can be more tape on the reel and a longer run time. I dought the fidelity is all that great. I'm also guessing the tape speed is rather slow as well to facilitate an even longer record time.
Elnoldo, one connection is for a mic, and the other an on/off controller, or power ya? Or just two mics?
I just find things like this very interesting. It would be cool if a remote activation is possible. Like a voice activated on/off switch.

I don't have the machine in front of me, a customer sent me pics of his "find" and I'm collecting info on the internet. He wants to send it to me for a service, but I can't take more work by now. Even if very interesting, I refused to receive the unit by now and I'm just giving him some remote "whatsapp" help.

Regarding the tape, almost sure it's blank and erased. I don't think that any spy, government agency or private investigator would leave a recorder without erasing the tapes. The chances of finding some sound on it are virtually zero. According to the link previously posted at #4, the tape width is 1/16" (1.6mm) so less that 1/2 of a cassette tape.
 
The tapes are most likely blank. But, there was that infamous laptop computer here in the US found to he full off stuff the pre-owned didn't think to delete. ;)
