I need some motivation for listening to my system again, help!

Danger Boy

web troll :-)
It's been almost a month now that I've listened to my 2ch only system. I liked it the last time I listened to it.. it's not perfect by any means.. but for some strange reason, I have no desire to fire it up at all.

It's still hooked up and ready to go.. maybe I just need some new tunes to get me motivated again to want to sit down for a couple hours and just take in the music.

Have you ever lost the will to want to listen to your 2ch system for a while?

Maybe it's begging for me to introduce some newer piece of gear into the mix? :scratch2:

What do you all think? Am I loco or what?

Looks like you have a really great sounding system. You don't need any gear... go out and buy yourself some new music... any music, different music. Discover something new!

I was kinda like that at one time. Although I didnt go a month, I did go some days without even turning it on at all.

Now days Its used nearly every minute I am home. Although Its a rare occasion when I will sit down and pop in a cd and just listen like I used to. Now that I hooked my stereo to my computer I usually just play stuff off of it as I have my entire library on here along with tons of other stuff. When I play stuff off of my computer I dont sit down in the sweet spot and listen im usually doing stuff or on the computer but my system certainly sees alot of use vs before when I just played cd's or the occasonal radio listening.

I can go weeks without listening to my records, then, suddenly I'm listening to a few every day. It just depends on my mood.

If I get a new (old) piece of equipment, I'll hook it up in various systems to see how I like it - that'll keep my interest for days.

I love to experiment with different configurations to see how they sound. I can go weeks without turning the tv on......

I discovered that the main reason why I didn't play my system regularly is the fact that I got bored with playing the same tracks over and over again. So I started using my tuner more often.

It's been probably 2 months or maybe 3 since I've listened or even turned on my Mancave system which is my main system. I just go through phases. I have bought quite a bit of new tunes, I just don't have the desire to listen lately. Eventually I will, and I will have a nice collection of new tunes to listen to, so I don't get too worked up about it anymore.

If I don't listen for a few hours a day, something is wrong.

Maybe you should just sell everything? :D

i would take good care of them:D why ill even pay bottom dollar for them:Dbut you gotta cover shipping. trippple boxed and all please.:D

I will sometimes go a few days without turning my system on for one reason or another. The usually happens during the summer months. This is a busier time of the year and I just have less time to sit and relax. I wouldn't worry about it. Focus on building your music collection for times when you can't seem to get enough of listening.

I haven't turned my system on for 2 weeks. I am a big baseball fan and in the evenings I enjoy listening to a ballgame and my mornings are filled with ESPN radio to keep up to date on the scores and updates. Kind of like reading the morning paper for me.

don't even think about going in there and trying to listen to it; forget about it, it's not worth it, put it out of your mind, get another hobby, and sell it all; it's a pointless, worthless, ridiculous hobby-- FORGET IT AND MOVE ON WITH YOUR LIFE, you won't regret it.

I've fallen out of much listening lately as well- for what reason, I don't know. Not that I've been home all that much since, but I think I've played 4 lp's since AK Fest. I have been playing things on the 2nd system from the computer I set up for it a few weeks ago, but I never just sit and listen to that- it's still just for background, at least for now.

This is kinda easy to fix... Lately, I haven't been listening to much either on my system in the living room. I've been firing up Pandora, and working in the garage... but of course out there I've also got another VOTT, so it does sound pretty good.. but it's just background noise mostly while I've been working.

The TV is always playing through the livingroom system... not anything for music.. SO....when I want to finally start playing some albums it's easy to get in the mood..

Open a bottle of wine, unscrew a beer cap, or splash some whiskey in a glass.. sit back a few and wait for the effects to start, and before you know it, you'll have the neighbors being able to listen to your system too..

Except when traveling, I don't think I've gone a day without listening in the past 30 years.

It's kind of a seasonal thing for me. This time of year playback of recorded music moves into the background of life, it's still there, just not the focus. Outdoor and fair weather activities along with extended daylight hours keep many of us northerners plenty busy, so that intimate listening and general audio tinkering just don't fit into the schedule like they do in the colder and winter months.

Add to that events like this past Sunday evening when you could go see Blue Oyster Cult and Bad Company outdoors for nearly free admission, possibly one of the best sounding outdoor concerts ever heard in these parts(thanks EAW!).

Whatcha workin on, more Altecs i hope?

I only listen to 2channel so if I ain't listening to my 2 channel, I plain ain't listenin'!

It's easy for me to go weeks without TV too. Pure crap.

Started prepping one of my Peaveys for veneer, and also started on building my RCM.. there are threads about both in the DIY..

I'm gonna learn on the Peaveys before I trash a VOTT..

I also gotta agree a lot about why I don't listen as much now.. nice weather, and too much other stuff to do.. I still listen, just not focused.. I've usually always got music on somewhere..

Sometimes you just need a breather—and not just from audio. I take one from the main rig every now and then (though I will listen in the car or through my wife's iPod; I simply can’t be without any music), and usually when I come back, I enjoy and appreciate the MUSIC—operative word there—a lot more than I did. And that’s not a bad thing. :music:
