I need to learn when to give up and throw things away

When you just sold your property and have to downsize from this to a 1600 Sq Ft warehouse:

I've already taken down three rows of pallet rack.

We're using a laptop for streaming that was my sons and is at least 8 years old with a screen I replaced. I can fix a lot of stuff but I like new stuff so if it breaks and the value isn't there it get pitched or recycled.
With so many things costing so much to repair these days, there really is no other choice but to replace it. And not even electronics! It's sad how we've become such a disposable society.

Come to think of it, I DO still have my Sony Betamax here ... also a bunch of tapes I never watched ripped from my C band satellite dish ... which I also still have ... <G>

Repurpose it. Send out a signal to space playing “I Love You” by Barney the Dinosaur Your bound to make contact. I promise. :D

Disclaimer: Any damage, harm or even probing that may result from sending signal of any kind is the sole responsibility of transmitter. Not me.
Good luck!

I would think that if an intelligent life form received that signal, it would actually make them stay away. I know I sure would.:D

fixing old and broken (or both) laptops means secondary use as
music server, CD/LP ripping station with no added hum, etc.

don't need the 40 core/80 threads at 4GHz to play 1000FPS WOW. good enough
for audio.

then when you're done you can donate to needy folks, gain karma points, and be
next in line for that billion dollar lottery top prize...
It never hurts to have a cheap secondary use/beater computer. Or a few.

Even a computer that is considered a turd by today's standards can be surprisingly usable for most average things that people do. Using a lighter weight OS, like certain flavors of Linux, will help a LOT.

My little $20 Acer netbook only has a 1.6 Ghz dual core Intel Atom, and I maxed out the memory to 2gb. With Linux Mint XFCE installed, it actually isn't that bad. Surprisingly, it starts up and shuts down fairly quickly. Launching Firefox takes a few seconds, but is fine once it is open. It plays music, streams Youtube HD in full screen, and browses the 'net without any issue. I even did some basic editing and encoded a video that was almost 3 hours long with it just to see if it would do it. It took a little over 4 hours to do the encoding, but it did it.:rflmao:
