Actually they are the SR 80e s based on the mostly positive comments I have read hear! cant't wait to check them out! was looking at cheap and small amps to go with this. any suggestions? was looking at the FILO brand but don't want to spend more than$40. is the e6 ok?

Amp isn't really needed for those as any phone, mp3 player, laptop should power them fine. But if you want to spend money then you can't go wrong with Fiio. You do mean Fiio and not filo correct?

I had the Fiio E12 and it powered my Grado 325i cans very nicely.
 
I am listening to these for the first time and must say that they sound much better than my old pro4a by a long shot! I also bought a Topping Nx1 amp which I don't think I will need as these seem very efficient.

I have the Grado SR-80i headphones. They sound wonderful plugged into my Sansui 8 Deluxe receiver, have plenty of volume! I did upgrade my ear pads to the 125-325 pads, more comfortable & better sound.
 
last night I listened to Fiona Apples 2nd album then Bjorks Debut album both sound stellar! also played a little Reggae and some Faith no More. sure is easier to pick up the gentle nuances of music.
 
I just picked up some SR60e as my entry into Grado headphones. I listened to them through my Toshiba XR-P9 and they sound pretty good!
 
I would like my SR-125's a lot more if the cheap, lousy headband would hold the drivers close enough to my ears to couple the bass. They can't, so I rarely use them.
 
well I have only used them once so far but I am pleased! not sure what to do with the phone amp I bought.

You can bend the headband a bit to give you a snug fit. Don't have that problem with my Grado headphones.
 
I like mine but don't use headphones a lot. Haven't found the need for a separate amp. BTW, I replaced the ear pads with the Sennheiser HD414 replacements. I find them more comfy and they don't interfere with sound transparency or color in any way I can pick up.

I find them a worthy replacement for the old HD414's.
 
I have SR80s with Sennheiser ear pads and they sound great but my 50-year-old HD414s are still the best cans ever made, bar none.
 
they are breaking in nicely, just listened to Jimi H Electric ladyland and picked out a few subtle nuances I have never heard before. glad I made the plunge. will probably sent the amp back.
 
I'm new to the Grado club, too. Picked up some SR60e's a week ago. I love their sound. Very natural sounding to me, with smooth detail that is very pleasant to my ears. I like the fact they're domestically built, also.
 
Love my old SR-60. VERY comfortable to wear and nonfatiguing to listen to. When the original pads wore out, I went with HD414 replacements and I like them better than the originals. Eventually, they started to sound distorted. I sent them in for service, and for $25, Grado replaced the drivers in them and shipped them back to me... thought that was a great deal.

You're supposed to bend the headband with your hands to adjust the clamping force to your liking.
 
I have an older pair of SR 80s. There's a Topping pocket amp and bright yellow 414 pads on the way. I'll give a review soon.
 
Congrats.. those are nice 'phones.
Yess there are better ones (always are :-) but more importantly many far worse ones.
I found small but real improvements (better midrange/voices) by popping off the plastic name disc stuck onto the perforated plastic vents.
Even more of the same improvement by replacing that cheesy plastic with discs cut from finely perforated metal speaker cover/ grill material.
The cans twist apart to open.. being sloppily glued

That amounts to SACRILEGE. To even suggest a pair of near or current Grados could be better than something like 50 year old Koss phones.

how about some pics of this mode? I bought the Topping amp but don't think I need as they seem very efficient.
 
I'm pushing 62 and forced into wearing glasses. My Grado SR 80I fit over my ears as well as any I've tried and the stereo sound produced is amazing. Very satisfied!
