I picked up a pair of Grado sr80s!

I am considering the Grados...had a pair years ago and dont have a clue what happened to them. I hated the wire frame though.
If I order another pair can I get them new with a better
cup set up...more comfortable..????
I havent found any reviews that offer any better for the money...do you know any???

I'm the proud owne of the entire 1000 family, meaning the GS/PS/HP1000, I also have a pair of Bushmills X, and yesterday I picked up a pair of SR80e.
When I got home I swapped the S-earpads, for some TTVJ flats, and I was floored, by the sound quality that I was hearing from these $130 headphones.
A MAJOR no brainer, if they're ever was one.

Do you happen to have a link for those pads by chance? One thing about the Grados, they can be tweaked heavily just by swapping the earpads for ones with a different shape. I bought the RSII's and didn't like the lack of upper-bass punch (I think part of it could be the fit... My ears are a little small for those, so they don't make a good seal), plus the upper-mids and highs seemed a bit too much, so I tried swapping the pads with my SR80 pads, and voila, there was my upper-bass punch. So, I decided to make the old "quarter mod" hole a lot bigger, but not quite as big as the hole in the center of the RSII pads, and that made them just right. Attenuated the highs a hair compared to the RSII pads and solved the upper-bass issue. I use mine a lot. They sound awesome through the headphone-output of my Fisher 800C, plus they also do well through a simple portable device like my Kindle or my Dell DJ 20GB player.

They are great, aren't they? I have two pairs, still love 'em. One headband is newer than the other and it pinches my head a bit, but the other one is fine. The construction of the 414s, though minimalist, really hold up.

I've been trying the Topping amp and Senn. 414 pads with my SR 80s, using a Sansa clip as the source. I have to say it is an improvement from the old pads and the amp makes the Sansa more enjoyable. I'll try the amp with my ATH ANC7 phones outside this afternoon, need to blow some leaves into piles and I don't care if the neighbors laugh!

the wires came from the back of mine. how do i get them repaired? i enjoyed em, but they gave up on me. ive tried to contact the company,, cant get thru.

They charged me $25 to replace the drivers in my SR-60. Its possible that higher models might cost more for repair.

They answered the phone when I called last year (normal Eastern Time business hours), and also returned my email within a day or two when I wrote them a couple weeks ago.

SR80 is 32Ohm cans,mostly laptop, DAP can drive this cans loudly.
So, adding amp is not must.
What I did when listening music from my DELL laptop, I add small DAC (AudioEngine D3 or HifimeDIY or Dragonfly).
This DAC will improve SQ from your computer or DAP.You will amaze with sound from your Grado..
