This past weekend, was my first garage/estate sale outing of the year and I picked up some outstanding audio equipment. Here’s a list of what I found, all from the same sale.

1). Infinity Servo Statik 1 Speakers in rosewood with subwoofer and Infinity amplifier/crossover.
2). McIntosh 1900 receiver.
3). Phase Linear 400 in original wood cabinet.
4). Sony 2251 turntable with a Shure SME 3009 tonearm.
5). Tandberg TCD-330 cassette deck.
6).Altec Lansing “Hollywood” B-604 driver with N-1000 B network.
7) Variac, stylus microscope, high end audio cables, etc., etc.

Nearly everything came with the original manuals, product brochures, sales receipts and it’s all in near mint cosmetic condition. If I wasn’t standing here looking at it, I would have thought it was just a dream!

Sorry for the poor quality pictures. I had just brought everything home and stacked it where it wouldn’t be in the way. The picture does the Infinity speakers absolutely no justice. They have to be seen in real life to get any appreciation of their size and the stunning grain of the rosewood. The base module which is almost completely hidden in the picture, is a two man job, to move. I had to make two trips with the truck, just to get everything home.

It is fairly obvious that you didn't mention what you paid for all this so I am guessing that you simply don't want to make the rest of us even more jealous than we are already...........right? So........how much for this haul? I love the Sony TT as I have the same one but it only has the standard arm, not the SME beauty the one you have does. Those Infinity SS-1s were the speakers I listened to many years ago that made me realize someday I was going to own a set of fine speakers. A tad difficult to get them sounding as they can but once you do, they really perform. Congrats on a great score, I imagine we will be hearing more about how everything works and sounds............:thmbsp:

I not sure how I feel about posting the exact price I paid however, for those who want to do some research or have the knowledge, you can easily figure it out. They had each piece price separately and I gave them their full asking price. I paid less (for everything) than the going price on ebay for a Phase Linear 400 amplifier, without a cabinet. :thmbsp:

The entire system was still hooked up when I purchased it however, it had not been used for years and for obvious reasons, I did not attempt to test it. At the price I paid, it didn’t matter to me if it worked or not. I’ll be going through each piece and checking it out prior to bringing it up slowly on a variac. I’m guessing that everything (except maybe the speakers ) will be in working condition. Of course, they should have the usual maintenance like capacitor replacement and a good internal cleaning. It’s going to be a few months before I get around to testing everything (if I can wait that long :no:)but I’ll be sure to update the thread on how it’s all going.

You really got some really fine equipment for a price that most of us are probably crying over for sure. Wish an estate sale with components like that would turn up in my neck of the woods sometime. You flat lucked out and will no doubt be enjoying some great sounds in the not too distant future. Will look forward to hearing more as you get everything sorted thru and working, etc. I am dreaming too right now. Dreaming that it was me and not you that ran across that deal.................:D
 
Started My Testing

I had a little spare time yesterday so I decided to test the Phase Linear 400. I went through and performed my check out procedure and everything looked great. So, I decided to fire it up and check the DC offset. I was pleasantly surprised. The left channel measured 6.8mv and the right was 5.1mv. Those numbers were much better than I was expecting. Being I was on a roll, I decided to do a quick sound check. I hooked up a pair of mini Advents and sat back to give a listen. It sounded just fine so I have an amp, at this point in time, that is fully functional. :banana:

Now here’s my dilemma. At the very least, I was planning on recapping the “14” board and putting mica (or ceramic) spacers and new compound on the output transistors. However, I am also giving some thought to going with the White Oak Audio PL-14 replacement control board. Of course, it would be much cheaper to just recap the original board and call it a day. However, from what I’ve read, the White Oaks board really improves the performance and maybe reliability of this amp.

I’m looking for opinions, if it were your amp, what would you do?
