Ian D. Baren, AK chinacave, R.I.P.

RIP Ian. I'm pretty sure he bought a collection of a groups vinyl from me here on AK years ago.

Thanks for filling us in on his life. Well done. And welcome to AK!

I'm very sorry to hear this, I think I met him at a HV freezefest, he always had interesting posts. We are loosing so many good people lately, it makes me sad.

I’m very sad to hear of Ian’s passing. 55 is just too young.
I’m one of the blessed ones to have known Ian, to talk audio gear, and listen to his systems at Frankenfests and the Lodge meets. He had a magnetic personality that made you feel like you knew him for years. What a loss to his family and AK.
RIP Ian.

So sorry to hear this John, RIP Ian

Scares me as I hit 55 May 1st and I am already older then my parents when they passed away

Finally figured out how to embed a picture! Here's Ian at his last birthday party.

Also, a quick correction: his brother doesn't have grandchildren - yet... (But Ian had a strong relationship with his brother's kids and his girlfriend's kids.)

Hangin' with some of you at AK "Frankenfests" in Massachusetts over the years...

One of Ian's other passions: flying. He let me take the controls on that flight. Yeah, he musta' been crazy...

Yet another passion, going underground to places one shouldn't go. (Ian's in the rear, holding the flash.) He also loved photography and built his own custom flash-bulb holder for use in caves. (Yeah, he preferred flash bulbs underground just like he preferred tubes in his living room!)

My condolences,at my age I find it Impossible to hit the like button for a post of a fellow audio maniac who's moved on to the big line array project in the sky ,you coming here to honor your friends oigatiins says your one hell of a good man yourself ,we hang around people like us ,that shows me your friend had to have been one hell of a good dude .

So sorry for your loss. While we had not met, I was fortunate to have corresponded with him about an item he was selling.

RIP Ian.
I'm sure I met him at least once.
To the rest of you as sergeant Esterhaus used to say, " hey, let's be careful out there".

You certainly did, Andy, at the Spring Valley (?) NY meet a few years ago. I purchased a tube amp from him at that show, and we talked tubes - and vintage gear - for at least an hour.

I spoke with Ian again just a few weeks ago when he decided to unload his problematic McIntosh SACD player on Barter Town. I wasn't the first one to respond, but we got to catch up a bit. He never indicated that anything was amiss.

I guess it is part of our group's demographics that a few that we cherish and enjoy are taken too soon. It never makes it easier. Whether we were lucky enough to meet them face-to-face (as I was with Ian), or as a friendly and active forum member, each that we get to know becomes so hard to replace.

RIP Ian

Oh no, another dear loss. RIP Ian.

Thank you, johnschwenk, for bringing this to attention and for the photos.

I'm still trying to grasp this..what a loss...nicest guy you could meet. We had so many nice conversations at the NY meets. RIP Ian..you are missed...deeply.
