Identification Help

Hello
I am new to this site I just recently picked up a unit with a record player and radio on it the components inside are electrohome units and on the front is a logo with a black T. I am hoping to get some more info on the unit as it is in really good shape. I haven't tried the turntable yet but the radio worked when I plugged it in. I hope I put this in the right section like I said I am new to the site so if this is the wrong place just let me now where I should move it to

Hi and Welcome! Let's see the insides. It looks to be tube. It also looks to be a custom made cabinet and not factory.

Oh that's interesting I thought with the logo it might have been a factory piece just with different insides put into it

How did you get sound? Are there speakers built into the sides or did you use external speakers? I'm going to say that it looks to be mono and not stereo but would need to know if there is a balance control on the front or if the amp is single ended stereo or mono. Could you get an underneath shot of the amp?

Very nice. There is an Electrohome radio for sale on Ebay that was made for the T. Eaton Co,, chain of department stores. That unit also has a plate showing that information. Not sure if that is where the black T came from. Enjoy your find and welcome to AK!

There is a speaker in the base of the unit which is where the sound comes from. I believe there is a balance control but I'm not sure as none of the controls are labeled

So that means there is no balance any idea on what the 4 knobs could be? I think one is an on off but it also has a third position in it, one is volume and one is to adjust the frequency but I'm not sure about the fourth I thought it was balance as it didn't really seem to change anything

1) On/off volume
2) Tone
3) Selector (am, sw, phono)
4) Tuning

After studying it a little more I think that is AM and SW not FM.

The separate power amp has the standard tube set up as most did of that era - 5Y3 rectifier, 6V6GT output, and with this set up, the preamp tube is on the tuner chassis like a 12AU7 or 12AX7 or even a 6C4.

Somebody sure took the time to build that cabinet. If I had to guess, I would think that that radio originally came out of a floor standing console.

Out of curiosity, does the speaker have a coil of wire where the magnet should be?

The numbers on the glass? Different frequencies.

EDIT: Oh I see you have two different ID plates. I see one on the amp. This is the model of the amp only. The other one would be the model of the entire unit or the separate tuner.

No no, these are the numbers on the tubes themselves. They indicate which tube does which job. The 5Y3GT tube is a rectifier tube which changes the AC wall current into DC to power the entire unit. The 6V6GT tube is the power amplifier or power output tube. This one drives the speaker output transformer (the one underneath) and the speaker.
