Hello,

I read a lot of posts here on AK while looking for a TT. I landed with a Tachnics SL D2 in great shape! I had bought a Garrard Z2000B but there was some issues with it so I'm going to keep it and try and fix it but I wanted a working table in the meantime.

Can anyone identify this Audio Technica cart? I looked at their website and couldn't find anything that matches. I have a brand new AT 95e that I'm probably going to throw on there because there is a lot of noise and the needle looks a bit worn down. I bought the AT95e last week when the Garrard wasn't working properly hoping it was a needle issue (it wasn't) so I figured a brand new cart/needle would accompany the D2 nicely. Thoughts??

Thanks!

No help here for an ID, but if you separate the cart and headshell (you are thinking of replacing it anyway), the model number is right on top of the cartridge (my guess is that it's an AT11E). My sense is that cartridge is better than an AT95E and a new stylus would have it singing.

Edit - I'd take it off to ID it. From looking at the picture, those screws are all the way back in the headshell and every properly aligned Technics I've had has been positioned much further forward in the headshell. From the base of the bayonet (where the gasket is) to the tip of the needle should be 52mm.

Hi,

It looks like an AT11E stylus on a much posher body than the AT11E ever had.

FWIW the AT11E is a direct precursor of the AT95E, probably barely different.

And yes, you need do need check the cartridge alignment,
as said it hardly ever looks like that done properly.

rgds, sreten.

Thanks all! Very much appreciated. That's how it was when i got it a couple of days ago. I think I'll put my AT95e on instead of this one. That way I can do my best to properly align it. Any tips/tricks on aligning them...?

Assuming it is for the Technics SL-D2. :)

Thanks Balifly! That helps a lot! I'm excited to increase the quality of the sound. I listened to Tubular Bells last night... first time I've heard it all the way through and on vinyl. My dad had the CD so I've heard most of it in pieces over the year. Usually on his crappy garage CD boombox. What a great album it is!
