Identifying akai turntable from a movie!

greenflash

A friend of mine set me some kind of challenge, he saw an Akai turntable in a movie, and I'm not able to identify it. I only have this picture and I know it's got an APC-4 cartridge.

Anyone care to risk a model? :D

I didn't see it yet, just that bit, in fact a friend of mine with little idea about audio gear told me. I guess he became an expert after driving me around with old turntables!

It looks like a wider base version like this AP-004X, but you know what? I think Balifly was right all along. I think it's the 420...get it? 4-20? For that movie it makes sense. :beatnik:

Mmm right, @Balifly maybe was right all along; I may have looked at the wrong picture.. But it could be the 004X too, indeed.
The 420 has that logo in the front that of course I cannot see.. It will be a matter of getting a better image of the panel by the tonearm, that's where the model resides, and doubts will be blown away.

Akai made some lovely looking gear , I would definitely make room for one of these

Me too my friend! I had an AP206 (or was it 207? I think 207) until not long ago, but had to sell it out. I'm on the alert to get a new one, though, as I've built an akai rack (black, love it) around the small but great am2350, a deck and a very nice equalizer. I would have to get one in black though, or.. wood. I'm crazy about wood turntables hehe, I'd love to have the Pioneer PL530, for example.

Today I own the PL520, and also a Marantz 6150 and a NEC, wooden base, which the guys here helped me identify, as usual :D

This is an old thread but thought I would chime in since I now own one of these -
I just picked one up with the original box, packing materials and manual. To clarify on the model numbers that are being thrown around, the AP-420 and the AP-004X are exactly the same model (as per the manual). The AP-420 came with the Akai cartridge and the 004X did not include the cartridge - that's the only difference.
