identifying Goodmans speakers

Some threeway vintage Goodmans speakers are up for sale localy.

Being a lover for vintage speakers they have caught my attention and I can't let them go.

They look like this:

According to the description they are from 1965 and have horn driven midrange and treble.

But what are they? Any info?

Should I run or should I hide?

Goodmans have an excellent reputation, smooth UK sound. Well worth a look, depending on the price. Pull the backs to confirm.

I have a set of elite goodmans. I wasn't impressed with them. Making it worse was the fact that the goop they put around the drivers to seal/stop rattling, actually was glued to the cover as well. I got em cut open and am likely putting some other drivers in em. Projects projects projects.

I have a pair of Goodmans Magnum-K speakers that sound wonderful. Those look pretty serious, but I'm not sure what the are.

The grille looks similar to mine, and if it is, would be bolted on from the inside of the cabinets. The surrounds on my woofers are a shiny rubbery material, and don't look like they could rot, not sure if they used that on all their speakers though.

they look like 12 inch audiom driver's- probably audiom 61's wirh a midax horn mid and a trebax horn tweeter i havent seen that enclosure before

if they're inder $200 US for the pair you're doing very well should you decide to resll them

Thx for all the feedback. The are much more than $200 US the pair so I guess I'll just hide. But I sure like this kind of vintage speakers.

I also have a pair of Magnum-Ks. Wonderful speaker. One of my favorites. I'm surprised the seller is asking more than 200 clams for those though. I got my Mag-Ks for $40 off CL. I just need to refinish them.

The seller - elderly gentleman who bought the Goodmans along with a Fisher X-100 and a Thorens TD-124 in 1965 - just confirmed that the speaker units are Axiom 301, Midax midrange and Trebax tweeter.

The cabinets are made in Denmark by the company that sold the speakers back then.

These are really rare speakers in this (small) country and the seller wants 800 usd for the set. I might be able to get him a few dollars down. But then he and the speakers are in the other end of this (still small) country.

I guess I'll stick with the other 16 pairs of speakers I've got.

there's a big difference between the magnums and whats in these the last pair of midax on ebay sold for $200 and the trebax for $150 depending on the age of the audioms they'll typically go for $200 to $300 + for a pair

with them being axiom 301's you have a driver with a whizzer cone for the low end a pair didn't sell on ebay for $550 though that price isn't unheard of with the cabinet as well he's pretty spot on with what they value at

I love mine I don't think I'd let them go for less than $800 either

If I drive an extra 200 km next weekend when I go the other end of this small country (to Copenhagen) I can get even get to see and hear the Goodmans before taken any decisions.

$600 to $800 is right in the going market rate especially if it has a goodmans crossover network in it as well. essentially goodmans in that day sold ready to build kits and/or plans for the true DIY'er I've never seen the plan for the encolsure you're looking at - but that doesn't mean it's not a goodmans design

mine are a little bit older than the one's in question so I would expect the top end to be a little better. Mine only go up to about 18K where's those probably go higher. Where they really shine is in the mid there's a depth and warmth to them that is very satisfying to my ear

I see you have heresy's now back when I was in the army a long time ago my friend bought heresy's and the difference you'll find is that the heresy are really bright compared to these

Thx again, you can say that again about the Klipsch Heresy being really bright.

I try to tame mine upwards with warm sounding amps like Sansui AU-9500 or old tube amps (but not the Fisher X-100, I have too).

I would go get those. They are very nice sounding horns. A buddy of mine has a pair and I have always tried to get them from him. Perhaps you could get him to make you a full package deal w/ the Fisher and Thorens as well. If those two components can be acquired cheaply along w/ the Goodmans, that would be cool. They are legendary. Why don't you like the Fisher on your Heresies- you have 2 x-100s right? That should be a match made in heaven in comparison to the colder, grainier AU-9500. Just sayin'

Just found a clean pair of Elite Goodman EE4410's. All speakers check out as original. Haven't picked them up, so am looking forward to hooking them up to me 2238B......

The tweeters are SEAS H087 and the mid/woofers are KEF B139.
