If you had the choice what piece of gear would you pick?

I am having a bit of difficulty here... I just don't get it...

Trade speakers (great ones) for electronics... Why would anyone ever do that?

(Echoed from behind the great masse of speakers..)

In all honesty, I can't imagine it..

I have two mottos..

1. Give me decent electronics and great speakers (I'd spend $100 for every dollar I spent on electronics)
2. Live long and prosper..

Maybe it's just me..

Hello, my name is Dan and I am a speakerholic

If I had the luxury of space to put the Ml's in another listening room I might keep them. Like i've said, my main pair of speakers eat the ML's alive and I find i'm not using them much. I'll trade just about anything except for my main pair of speakers. The Logans sound great but not that great!

Slam dunk!

I take the Rotel RX-1603 rebuilt or not rebuilt. I don't care. It would just be a matter of hauling it to Norm at Sertech, and it will give me 30+ years of great sound!
I choose the Rotel because it's not being made anymore. Where do I find one?

Mike,

I gotta know (being a die hard speaker guy) what are your main speakers and which MLs do you have?

I have never owned MLs or any ESL, but I am thinking of buying or building some ESLs.. I like the Quads I have heard (with some added bass) and the some of the MLs.

I think my favorite speakers might be Ohm Fs set up right.. but I have many other close runner ups.. Part of the difficulty in comparing is not being able to live with every nominee.. kind of like looking at a Playboy.. :)

Anyway, I just have to know what you think blows away MLs..

If the above sounds in the least bit argumentitive.. it isn't meant that way.
I am just a diehard speaker guy.. ok I'll say it again..

My wife would like me to seperate from my addiction.. Someday she will, when my toes face skyward from 6 feet under.

I like speakers too, i've owned many and currently have 3 pairs upfront. The ones that won't leave are Energy Veritas 2.8's and to me they sound better than the Sequel II's. I love the way the Logans sound but I've had them for a while now and it is time to move them along.
i haven't taken anything as argumentative at all. :)

I happen to know a speakerholic that might be interested in making a home for them :)

Wow, long time no post. It's great to be back :)

If you had the choice, which piece of gear would you take home with you today on trade for a pair of speakers (ML's):

Simaudio 4150 power amp

Blue Circle BC22MKII

Marantz 300DC power amp

Rotel RX-1603 receiver

Sonic Frontiers SFL-2 tube pre

I just can't seem to decide. I know what the used value is for the preamp but i'm not sure about the others.

So? What would YOU do and why? The Logans are worth about $1000US.

Thanks gents (and lasses)

well, i heard a bc amp; it was a beast - 125wpc, not sure if it was this same model. but, the amp i heard was *wery* insensitive - 2.65v needed for full power. so, be sure ya have really sensitive preamp &/or sources. also, imo, it dint hold a candle to my audio mirror 6c33c 40w set monoblocks when driving vmps rm40's from 200hz on up. even tho the a-m's are ~1/3 the retail cost. everything else i haven't heard, but it's all s/s, so i would go w/the sfl2. tho not my 1st preamp choice (that would be melos), i wouldn't be w/o a tubed preamp.

ymmv,

doug s.
