Ahhhh the dreadful gear comparison question....

So I sold my bedroom Pioneer SX-780 and YES I regret it. Yes I know you all told me so.

Sigh. Live and learn.

I'm currently using a Yamaha RX-397 mostly because of the remote control factor (I can lay in bed and adjust stuff)... but I miss the look and sound (look) of my vintage gear in my bedroom.

I am not currently interested in moving anything from the music room up to the bedroom, so I have been looking around.

In the $250 to $400 CDN range I have located the Luxman R-800, a Sansui 800 (a ferry ride to collect aka $200 round trip with my car), a Heathkit AR-15 (ferry ride) as well as an Akai AA-8080 (have a weak spot for early Akai gear).

The Luxman and Akai I have a very good idea on the soundstage from them as well as build quality - yes I am aware the Luxman is better unit.

Speaker wise said unit will be driving Celestion 9 Legends (technically a monitor more than loud speaker - but they work really well given the size of the bedroom).

Sources will be FM radio (300 ohm antenna), TV direct via RCA cables and a bluetooth adaptor. I keep thinking about putting a turntable back in the room as well.

If I could locate a reasonably priced (and local) HK 730 Twin, I'd move my HK 430 Twin into the room (no, not interested in it leaving the music room until I get a 730/930).

So asking you all once again for real world feedback and why this over that. Pros & Cons?

Thanks again folks,
Scott

Luxman is the best spec-wise. I might wait for something else. Late-70s gear is usually better sound-wise.
