Ilyushin Il-14 Restoration Project

I've been checking out an interesting site over the last few weeks and ran across this project to restore a Ilyushin Il-14 there.

There are plenty of other interesting articles and pictures there as well.

I imagine they picked this particular plane as I would think its operating costs once it is done would be considerably more reasonable than other various planes they could restore. From what I've seen, there doesn't appear to be a shortage of planes in Russia left to deteriorate on former airfields.

If you have some interest, and a bit of time, check out the site:

second that interesting site

@devnull I second that looked at that site previously ,forgot about it even though I bookmarked thanks for reminding me . lot of info there including soviet era cars and trucks cool site !

Here's the Wiki article on the IL-14: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilyushin_Il-14

Essentially it boils down to a tricycle-geared kinda DC-3ish bird. Actually rather nice looking compared to other Soviet planes of the era. Bet you could pick one up for a grand or two...then ya gotta get her back here. Hmm.

On a tangental note: This year's EAA Airventure @ Oshkosh will feature the return of "FiFi"...the only flying B-29 left in the entire world. First visit since 1995!! i had the pleasure of seeing "FiFi" up close & personal in Rapid City back in '91. There's impressive...then there's IMPRESSIVE.
