I've always mentally made fun of metal acts so as to never offend their fans. But these guys... I'm actually laughing at the over-the-top "seriousness" of it, and the industrial pounding beat, as well as the vocals. And enjoying every second.

Who the blazes ever heard of a 51-year-old Rammstein fan?

i'm 35. can't recall how old i was when 'du hast' was on the radio. that's the only song i've heard of theirs, but i liked it and it isn't my style at all.
 
Du Hast is played as bumper music for a talk radio show I listen to. I had no idea who Rammstein is/was while I listened to it but it always grabbed me. I should more accurately say, I didn't know who Rammstein is/was until RayW explained Rammstein to me. I looked them up and listened to a few of their tunes and came across Du Hast.

As it turns out, I liked Rammstein and didn't know it :D

"Du Hast" doesn't really show the potential that Rammstein has. Given, the song is from their first album. I think Reise, Reise and Mutter are superior to their earlier output. And the new album, Liebe Ist Für Alle Da, is outstanding. Give "Donaukinder" a listen. :music: I'm not that much of a metal fan, but I really enjoy Rammstein. "Rosenrot" is another good, melodic metal tune. :rockon:
 
From an American perspective, Rammstein sounds pretty good. However, if you have any sort of understanding of German, the song "Spiel Mit Mir" is actually quite disturbing.

Rammstein isn't my cup of tea, but I have many friends who are into them.

It's fun to know just enough German to confuse the crap out of myself. Sometimes they spell it out in simple German though.
 
They are one hell of a great band, and talk about one of the best shows I've ever seen...

Their pyro's are so over the top. They make the early KISS concerts with all the fire look like a guy standing on the stage with a bic lighter..

Check out this video that highlights their pyro's. You have NO IDEA how intense the heat is coming off the stage even at the rear of an arena.. It's wicked intense.. Their show was one of the best stage shows I've ever seen..

A couple things to note in the video... Notice the face masks with the flame throwers. When I saw then they were wearing these, plus they had flame throwers on their guitars. They were tossing the flames out over the crowd a good 75 feet..

Also, the very end of the video where he comes up from the stage wearing the coat on fire. When I saw them that is how the show started, and he sttod there a good 5 minutes singing the first song on fire with his arms stretched out.. I was impressed he could keep his arms up that long, not to mention all the heat coming off him... it was pretty crazy.

Was at some AK shindig or other, I'm thinking it was at Jay's house, and we put on some Rammstein just messing around. Urizen walks into the room and says, "Rammstein, cool. My Mom likes them." :thmbsp:
 
For me as a German I dislike Rammstein, their lyrics are strange to me and remind me me somehow of some bad things happening in the past (not to mention they have sth to do with this!!!!!!). But so military. Even their name... a airport where a horrible accident happened with many victims... ahh I always dislike things like this, did you see their last video, "pussy"? Even in Germany its indexed. Ouch - a hardcore p*rn? They are professionals and need a f*ck*ng p*rn to make people talk about them. they need to show that everything is available for money just like these bad boy gangsta-rappers:pistols:. Can't take them seriously anymore. I think in the view of the Quality of their music, they are brilliant, but I don't like the aura around them... they are so... ... wannabe. "Engel" and "Los" I like, this is what I have to admit :rolleyes:.

Outstanding video Marne! Both of my kids really got a kick out of it. I don't get 90% of Rammstein so I just get to enjoy the tunes.
 
I know enough German to follow their lyrics, and they seem strange to me too. Kind of mechanical rhythms, but they do make a nice noise for when you want something loud.

Yeah, who would have thought. I'm 50 this year and decided I liked the music. I had to look up the lyrics and it appears things don't translate well. Too many possible implications. I just enjoy the noise. Reise Reise was my pick when I ordered a CD. Took forever. Didn't notice it was coming from...ARGENTINA! Great system test music. In the great lyrics of Head Pins, Darby Mills, TURN IT LOUD! Then you'll see what you got!.
 
Love rammstein- I really recommend "Mutter", as a whole album. For newer stuff, check out he song "Rosenrot", one of my favorite intros. I actually like most of their stuff, great industrial metal...vocalist really makes it (Till lindemann- I think). Bizzare band though, nothing short of full-on weird.

I find them to be one of the more tolerable dance bands. They always get a good response from the crowed at parties. The chicks dig ‘em and the hardcore dudes can dance without loosing face.

I think what marne says about them is part of what makes them a true R&R band, even though they are called metal..

They stir up controversy, they are in your face and they don't care who they piss off.. the real roots of R&R, only they are that much more over the top of the originals. Kind of like the Sex Pistols in a way..
 
generational span

I happen to be working on something here and want to "test" it so I threw Rammstien to it and cranked it a little. A step daughter was here to help a family situation and said "I think my son would like that". I burned a CD and sent it home with her. The son LOVED it (17). Turned his friends on to it and became big-man-on-campus. They also like Aerosmith and I told them to check AC/DC years ago. It warms my heart to see a younger generation liking the 70s/80s rock. The kid next door plays some "classic" rock/R&B/etc.. stuff while "fixin-on" his stuff. Some cruisin through youtube checking for old stuff shows a lot of young people discovering the old school rock. May be hope for the future yet.
 
I've enjoyed Rammstein for a long time, seeing them live twice: one in a small venue, where you could get close enough to touch them, and later in a big stadium. Both gigs where outstanding.
I love their Teutonic kind of music, their industrial rhytms and - especially - their lyrics. They tend to describe (weird) events, like this (read at your own risk) in the song 'Mein teil'. Gruesome, shocking, but I like it. The song that is, not the actual event.

And, because of their rhytms, I tend to listen a lot to them while I'm training on my bike.
