Hey we've all been there in one form or another, no one is going to look down on you. If you want proof just search AK for 'stupid mistakes' and you'll find some very long threads!

Only reason I asked for more details was diagnosis of the problem.

There are several incarnations of the 250, be sure to get the service info for your particular amp. There are service bulletins that may or may not apply depending on when it was made and if it was ever updated at a factory service center.

Bob @wlhd1610 is very familiar with these, and a good guy, too!

Bob did mine and a fantastic job, plan to spend $500-600, but when it's done you will have an upgraded and stable 250. Even though I am all the way across the country, Bob has done my 250, 250M and SM-7 and he did them all justice. Good luck Rich

UPDATE: Diagnosis, a dead short. I took my 250 to Mike at Austin Stereo. Mike has been in business since 1983. If there's anyone I trust with my 250, It would be Mike. He popped the top and could tell me where certain diodes came from, auto parts etc. Mike also identified parts that had been claimed to be replaced but had not. Mike is an all or nothing tech, you do it right or you don't do it at all. I trust him implicitly. I had first used mike about 20 years ago. YOu get what you pay for. $500 - $700. "be prepared to spend this much or take it home and wait, I will be married to this thing for the next 2 weeks. I've learned a lot, and I thank you all.

great to see a direction for your 250. I was curious what "fully serviced before I got it" really was. I know most repair shops get it working with what they have available. I'm glad to see you found someone you feel comfortable with to meet your goals.

Well, it's fixed. Painful. Expensive. Many thanks to Mike and his tech's at Austin Stereo. You get what you pay for.

I think the 250 is above my pay grade.
they have a reputation for being very particular about their setup when replacing outputs, etc.

I can tell you it took me about 10 years to get my 250 going.

Well, maybe about 8 years here. Whew, finally working perfectly.

I farted around trying to fix this one 250 for a few years. I eventually handed it over to a fellow poster that does receiver rebuilds. And HE!!!! had a dog of a time getting it to work.
