Hi

Anyone have any information about IMAGE speakers. They were built in the API plant in Toronto. That is all I know. Apparently they are good quality. I saw one set. They had these lines that I know of:

01-A
02-A
10
20
30
5
AE-1
AE-1-AX
AE-2
AE-300
AE-400
AE-500
Concept 100
Concept 200
Reference 5
Reference One
Reference Two

That is all I know about them. Any help?

Image Ref Two

Hey Guys

Thanks for the Info! Indeed it is hard to find info on these babies!

I have a chance to purchase a set of Image Reference Two speakers.
Still considering it.

Do you have any pics of your Image Speakers (concept)? I would love to see them.

Thanks.

ken

Thanks

Hi Array

Thanks. The Reference Two speakers look a lot like Sound Dynamics or Energy speakers.

Not a lot of them sold I guess.

Ken, yesterday morning on the Boston Craigslist a pair of Teak Image speakers was listed. There was no model number listed, they reminded me of EPI's from the pic. I am not allowed to post the link here, but if you do a search on the Boston craigs for "Image Braintree" you will find them.

I am in no way affiliated with the seller or the item mentioned.

I am however interested in learning more about them, so if you come up with any info, please post it!

Thanks

Thanks

I shall check it out. Yes, you are right, they do remind me of EPI's as well.

I have a set of EPI's that are still kicking. Wicked little speakers.

Here's a pic of the top of one; they're in a dusty spare bedroom, but I do listen to them a lot. I still have the piece of the trim than came off. It's definitely the same brand, because each of them has two sets of identical woofers, mids and tweeters (the magnet in the tweeter is massive, it's almost the size used in an average woofer), so there are two sides on each w/grills, and they're set up so you can use two amps, one for each set, or whatever you want to do with them. They can handle LOTS of power, too.

Image 3A

Hi,
I was just thinking about my old stereo I bought as a kid and decided to google "Image speakers" to see if I could find anything..and came upon this thread.
Those pics and descriptions are of the same speakers I bought new in 1979 in MA, the dealer was Nantucket Sound and I believe Image was the house brand. The Model was 3A and they had identical drivers on 2 sides with a passive radiator on the bottom. There were individual sets of speaker terminals, which could be jumped for 1 input. They were big, heavy and Loud!
After Blowing the components for something like the 3rd or 4th time I retired them and eventually disposed of the cabinets from my garage a few years ago. I remember them being far superior to bose 901's and several other brands to my ears at the time (probably just the loudest!).
Anyway, good luck if you have a pair, I always liked mine! although time has shown me they were nothing special as far as the components they contained.
I am a devoted Klipsch fan now, having finally achieved my dream speakers, Klipschorns, which I have lusted after since about the same time I bought my Image 3A's, I remember I payed 300 dollars for the Images and the Klipshorns were $2000 at the Music Box in Wellesley.

I've got a pair of black Image Reference 2's that i bought new in 1990. I had to get them refoamed last year.
I love my Refs 2 dearly great clean sound especially since I run with my carver hr722 I bought at the same time.I think they were around 600 but got them for 300 on new years day sale.
I used to have the brochure but can't find it right now...

Not sure on the image brand but by the rep from most of the brands owned by api, i am sure they will be good. I just picked up a set of sound dynamics rts-7b-1 towers which are excellent in my opinion. Great bass from 2 poly 5" drivers with rubber surrounds. not much info out there on them that i was able to locate. They are front and rear ported.

Bump for old thread, but i had to chime in on the Image Ref 2 series....... Fantastic speaker!! I lucked out and picked a set up for 50 bones not really knowing any info about them aside from their appearance ( looked a bit like a black woofered Paradigm se ).
Had them at home for quite a while not really putting them into rotation , I was actually using some Paradigm 5se's i got for cheap and thinking they were all that aside from the beat up cabinets, and finally pulled them with intentions of fixing up the boxes and hooked up the Image set not really expecting much when essentially in less than 20 seconds I was totally blown away by the clarity and richness i was hearing!! Maybe 2 minutes had passed from Paradigm switch , so i had the sounds still fresh from a quick switch over. Amazing speaker, I highly recommend a set if ever coming across in your locals!! I have recently aquired the black beast Pioneer Vsx-d1s , and I think they really like each other!!

My sister's stereo from '75 had Image 12" 3 way speakers. They looked nice and they were ported. Probably bought at either Schaak or Team electronics in Minnesota.
