Impedance problem! HELP!!

Hi everyone (and excuse me for my poor english),

Well, I have a small tube amp, 15 watt, 6 ohm, with two 8 ohm speakers. The amp has only two speaker connections, one for each channel.

The thing is that a friend gave me a pair of jamo floorstanding speakers, and I would like to use the four speakers. The Jamos are 4 ohm, and I'm thinking about connecting two speakers for channel, putting two wires (one from each speaker) into one single speaker output. Is it a crazy thing?

The amp is 6ohm, and the speakers are 8ohm and 4ohm? Are they going to blow away? The amp? The Speakers? Both??

The picture shown below is a series configuration. It enables you to use more speakers, raise the loudspeakers nominal impedance, and don't overload the amplifier during the process.

Follow the chart, and you will be safe. :thmbsp:

That chart shows 2 series connections and would result in an impedence of 12 ohms for the OP.

There must be more than 2 speakers in one circuit for a series/parallel connection.

There may be two 8-ohm drivers in one cabinet why one box equates to 4 ohms.

I'll give it a try!!

The amplifier will actually work easier for the nominal impedance will be higher.

You will need to increase the volume on the amplifier however. That is based on the higher voltage required to drive the speakers at 12 ohms oppose 8 or 4 ohms.

Tube amplifiers are very tough as to overloading. You can connect the two units in parallel so as not to let DF decline. Total impedance will be approx. 2.7 ohm, so that you will have to turn down the volume in order that the sound will not break out.
