Impedence question

the keester

I dig music.
My Harbeth Compact 7s have a nominal impedance of 6 ohms and a sensitivity rating at 87 db.

I am using the 8ohm speaker outs of my mc225 to drive them. If i tried the 16 ohm (or maybe the 4 ohm) speaker outs of my MC225 what would be the result?

bad sound? ruined speakers? improvement in any way?

thanks

won't hurt

The Mac is transformer coupled or isolated (depends on how you want to look at it). You won't hurt anything trying the different taps. Usually most speakers have a impedance dip somewhere in the bass range - I usually run tube amps one tap down from whatever the nominal impedance of the speakers .
In any case - you won't hurt anything trying different impedance settings.

tried it.

4 ohm and 16 ohm sounded brighter and in your face. went back to 8 ohm for a warmer more balanced sound.
