For a while now, I thought I was pretty much done with buying speakers - I thought I found everything I wanted - after trying many, going through the whole buying and selling process and finally settling to a few sets that made most happy. I even switched gears and dove into cassette decks and tapes - which to some degree took my attention off the speaker market.
As you can guess - this didnt last long. Whenever I come across a good deal - its always a temptation for me. I try to resist, but I am not always successful. So, within a week I ended up with a couple more sets that ended up liking a lot more than I ever expected. Both dont have that much info on the internet, but there is some.
First was a small purchase - some Bookshelves that I just wanted to try, - I heard of the name brand, but never actually seen in person, so when I found these and for a very low price - I decided to give them a chance.
Ok, enough with the suspense - these are KEF Cresta 2. :
They turned out to be very nice speakers with clear sound and with a subwoofer they fit well in my home theater setup.
And than another pair - now these I "HAD" to get. Ever since I found Mirage 360 - I was absolutely in love with this brand. And I was not the only one who was impressed by it. When my very good friend, who is also into audio heard them, he wanted me to sell my set to him. When I refused, he went out and found himself a set on M360's anyway and he still is very happy with them, as I am with mine. I dont know what magic they put in those, but they are great sounding speakers.
So, when I came across another Mirage set of Speakers, I simply couldnt say no. This time it is a bigger brother to my 360's - SM 2.5 - three ways.:
All I can say is WOW! As much as I love my smaller 360's - these are even better. These give my ADS L710 a run for their money. I actually think that Mirages are more musical - ADS maybe a bit more detailed, but after hearing these - I'd call ADS more "clinical", while Mirage are very smooth with still very good detail. Low end is very good as well. they cant compete with a 15inch woofer, but for the 10inch ones that they have - very impressive - tight and accurate. These are quickly becoming a set that I listen to the most.
I tell ya - based on everything I have heard from Mirage thus far - they really were able to make some great speakers. I would for sure recommend it !
