Impressive fidelity from your unimpressive soundcard

hello everybody
thanks a lot for this thread, i was already using foobar but i never tried wasapi.
by the way i had a problem following the instrucions in the first post.
i'm using an external audio card (sound blaster hd) and when i go on
preferences>playback>output and i select "wasapi event" the speakers stop working.
i tried all the "wasapi event" in the list but no one seem to work.
the only way i can play music is by selecting DS (speaker usb soundblaster hd)
already did the changes from the volume icon (windows).
thank you

Since you are using external card you need to select NOT WASAPI event, but WASAPI : USB sound blaster HD or something like that.

For those with external cards WASAPI offers a special third option for interlinking the foobar directly to the card. So its not Push or Event, its the third one with WASAPU + your card name and connection (USB, SPDIF, Toslink...).

See this image, I indicated two options with red and green outline. Try the red one first or the SPDIF if its connected through SPDIF.

How do you have it connected to your PC?

it is connected with a usb port.
i have tried the options you seggested but that's what shows up:

and it does the same with 8/24/32 bit

Hmm that is odd. Maybe the sound card is not compatible with WASAPI. Try just Direct Sound option (Driver Audio principale, I think).

yes, that's the option i'm currently using.
DS: speakers (usb sound blaster hd).
by the way i did not understand if there is any difference between using the DS option ot the wasabi one..
about the compatibility i made a fast research on the internet and apparently the card is compatible with wasabi, could i maybe try another program to see if it works?
thanks

When you listen to music on foobar with DS setting, can you turn up or turn down the volume in the main windows audio mixer (bottom, right of screen)?

yes, from both the foobar program and windows audio mixer.

edit: i just realized you are from macedonia, does you nickname have something to do with goran pandev : D?

Ah that's no good, that means Windows mixer is still processing the sound.

You can try a trial version of JRiver Media Center 19 and see if that works for you.

http://www.jriver.com/download.html

PS. Goran Pandev is from Macedonia, but we are not related although our last names are same, just variants.

Una magia di Goran Pandev! :D

edit: the music seems to be much louder than before.. my nighbour will be happy : D
anyway the windows control still works..

Lets try again setting for Foobar.

Make this http://postimg.org/image/82cliwtnv/ at 16 bit, 44000Hz.

Disable every equalizer effect. http://postimg.org/image/igmnla6kz/

Set Foobar for 16bit/44100Hz with dithering. Wasapi (event) Altoparlante (USB Sound Blaster HD).

Play a CD on you computer.

For JRiver Media Center 19, go to Tools > Options > Device > Audio Device (first item) and select one of these:

ASIO
WASAPI event
Kernel Streaming

Play a CD.

Test if Windows Audio Mixer changes sound or it just slides without change.

i have no 44000 option

tried to check the "dither" but nothing changed

i also tried to update the drivers as suggested on a guide i found on the internet but nothing changed.
same goes for jriver.
keep looking for solutions on the web, thank you for your effort : )

edit: as i found on another site apparently the problem is that my audio card does not support 44100 Hz and maybe this is the reason for the problems i am experiencing...

edit2: apparently the spdif support 44100 but mt notebook does not have a spdif output, i guess i just nees something like this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DVI-to-HD...Coax-SPDIF-Audio-PC-DVI-to-HDMI-/231060682224

not sure if it is worth the money...

edit3: maybe i found a solution, will update soon if it works.

I added Wasapi to Foobar on my old Dell laptop and the improvement was stunning. I had to set it to 24 bit to get it to work with my Musical Fidelity 96/24 V-DAC MKII.

Pandovski - Thanks for the great upgrade!

Is there something like this I can do to improve USB streaming from Pandora & Mog?

wow i forgot all about foobar i used it before and i can remember it sounded real good.plus it plays a plethra of of formats. you came through again vlad!!
