Didn't want to jump in without a brief note on the whereabouts.
I'm Peter from Germany, currently 64 1/2 years old. The area I live in is called "Kalletal". Next bigger city is Bielefeld. Or Hannover.
I'd became an electric gearhead since I got my first solder iron from my dad at the age of 8.
My father had occasions to be sorry about that decision, because his son lugged in old gear from street finds and crapyards for repair - which frequently ended for him to get up from the couch and reset the circuit breaker for the house when "something went wrong" upstairs in my room & workshop.
At some point I started collecting old Dual record players ... which make little to no sense without an amp and speakers. Tuners are nice and so are cassette decks and reel-to-reels.
And old computers.
Currently I have an appartment well equipped with old stereo ... and a 60 squaremeters storage room, filled almost to the ceiling with old stuff and houses my workshop.
People come from around my area to dump their defective stuff and hope I can fix it. Well - fairly often I can. But things take time. Particularly when you have old tube-gear or an early 1960s unit with All-Germanium-Transistors on the bench, where spares don't come that easy as for mid-70s - to early-2000s stuff. After that circuit board often turn into a sort of porridge with the dreaded SMD-stuff, processors or custom chips, which is complicated to repair - or not intend to be anyways.
Currently I have a Sony STC-7000 + TA-3200F on the bench, which needed some love and spares. Today it was intended to put them "in the wake-up room" and test the success - or the lack of.
The STC's FM Muting does not work while switch and wiring are perfect. Hmm. And all of a sudden the left channel disappeared with scratching and noise on FM. Ah. The dreaded Sony CX-0462 strikes again. Found a possible fix here and will report back later.
