Induction or resistive soldering station?

I posted a thread earlier on the Hakko FX-100 and the safety of purchasing it through amazon. I came to find the vendor is a manufacturer representative so the purchase was safe.

My question now is, which would you believe to be the better station? The FX-100 or FX-951? I’m upgrading from the FX-888d. I already purchased the FX-100, but could easily sell it if needed when I receive it.

Thanks,

@saabracer23, it might help if we knew your application. I do strictly through hole components, and I've never felt the need to upgrade from my FX-888D. However, as I'm mulling over setting up for SMD work I'm looking at other soldering tools, such as hot air and microtip irons.

So what's your application?

I've been using the Hakko FX951 for the last 3 years and I wouldn't use anything else.
I work on all types of circuit boards and I have about a dozen different tips for the FX951. I haven't really found any task that it's not to too.

I also use a Micro-Soldering FM2032 with the T30 Elements for small surface mount work. The FM2032 is designed to plug into the FX951. - Chris

Depends how deep the variety of work. See your other thread on My Aoyou 9378. I did a crap load of quality work with an analog weller and I know many here who use pencil irons but like me have the big pistol gun, too.

Mostly through hole really, some point to point in older tube stuff. Through hole the 888d is fine for the most part, just that sometimes I think it would be nicer to have something quicker on the larger stuff like filter caps, larger ground planes, and I’ve run into some receivers where they ground a lead of a capacitor to the chassis and I need to desolder it in order to remove the board (I’d just cut it if I would be replacing the cap).

Good to know. I was really considering that one. I was also looking at the micro tips for the FX-100. I think I’ll just give the FX-100 a run and give honest feedback here on the forum so that someone in this situation will get some help. Seems not many use it. Unless someone comes on here and says that buying it was the biggest regret of their life, then I’d just resell it as new haha.
