Inexpensive Christmas gifts for audio and electronics nerds

fixed power supply substitute with thin band cable for batteries (available for AA & AAA , for 2 or 3 battery compartments)

Very cool. There were a couple of times I could have used this -- in fact I bought special "short circuit" AA batteries (still sitting in my drawer) to solder power supply wires to, but never got around to using them. It never even occurred to me there was an "off the shelf" solution.

The coolest thing I've seen this year (2025), so everyone on my audio nerd list gets a set (including me): Stereo Shine RCA jack cleaning and polishing set.

desolder kit similar to this. take a file to the one marked in red and put a sharper edge on it so you can get it under component leads . stop using your soldering iron tip to do that!

Fish paper. I did not know that was electrical insulating paper. It's so easy to get once you realize what it is. Cheap on Amazon, Digikey and all the big houses have it. You have seen it on the inside bottom cover of Marantz units, preventing solder pads from hitting the chassis, usually wrinkling and falling off. I got this swell stuff from Amazon, adhesive backed, and I will back it up with some glue. So much easier than trying to re-use the old junk.

I have a windshield wiper delay project (Velleman), and a pair of 1W headphone amps (Parts Express). I've tried giving them away, but nobody seems interested.

Plus 1! Those things are cool!
