Infinity 2500 tweeters lack sound, woofers work?

Hello. Years ago I acquired a pair of used Infinity 2500 speakers from a thrift store. These were the second Infinity speakers I've owned. I used them for a year and then they went in and out of rotation with other speakers. They worked good last time I used them. However the other day I hooked them back up after almost a year of sitting in my spare room and now each speakers tweeter fails to produce any sound. Wires are still connected internally. The woofers work. But the tweeters don't. This is the first time I've experienced that in a speaker.
Has anyone else experienced something like this?
Why would a tweeter stop functioning?
Can they be helped or repaired?
I know these speakers aren't the highest on the Infinity rank. Nonetheless I did like them.

I have the 1500s which is basically the same speaker. One of the tweeters in mine wasn't working and traced it down to a broken lead wire between the tweeter frame and the voice coil due to corrosion. It is very thin and fragile. I made an attempt at repairing it but no luck. Ended up buying a used replacement off eBay.
