Infinity Crescendo CS 3006 -- will these give me the EMIT experience?

Mystery

constantly upgrading...
I grabbed a pair of Infinity Crescendo CS 3006 speakers today.
I never heard EMIT's before.
Will these give me the EMIT experience?
Are these in same category as Qe, Qb etc.?

I am amazed at the wood grain quality on these as well as the depth of cabinets.
Very high end looking cabinets and huge port on the back with
bi-ampable terminals.
These are in perfect condition except the woofers need foam.
Do these need specific foam like JBL's or any foam will work?
There is nothing left to figure out if original foam was thick or soft. :scratch2:
Thanks for info.

Here are few pics:

I refoamed a similar set of infinity speakers which i used a kit from an ebay seller if i remember correctly. The set i had were reference fours similar speaker, 8" 3way with an emit tweeter but in a sealed mini tower with vinyl veneer instead of the wood veneer used on the crescendo series.

Good sounding speakers IMHO especially since they can be had cheap. As far as the emit experience i don't see why they wouldn't as they do have an emit tweeter.

Thanks for comment.
The reason why asked about EMIT is from what I read, not all EMIT's are good.
For example, Infinity Rsb like below is not considered that great.

Seriously? All EMITs are great. The Cresendo line-up has always intrigued me. Never came across a pair. That being said they will give your the EMIT experience if not exactly the vintage Infinity experience (I.E. Kappa, Quantum, Reference Standard).

Let me rephrase then.
What I meant to say is not all speakers that have EMIT sound great.
EMIT with good combination of mid/low drivers will sound nice than any model with EMIT tweeter.
I see same EMIT tweeters are in many models.
I missed a nice deal on a pair of Qe's before and always wanted to get my hands on some Infinities with EMIT's but Qe's have flat ribbon type EMIT's while these have round ones. :scratch2:

Since they have EMIT tweeters, they'll give you the EMIT experience, but IMO that is only part of the good Infinity experience. I've owned these, Qes, some ten inch three ways (maybe RS4000?) and RS IIs and although these aren't near the RS IIs, they were more to my taste than the Qes by a good bit.

The RSII's mentioned by stereofanboy have the same mid(s) and EMIT as the maligned (by the mysterious poster above) Rsb, as do the RSM's and the 1.5's.
Now that I know how crappy my RSM's are I may have to donate them to Goodwill as I doubt anyone would want to buy them.

The so called "golden age" Infinty's had the flat plate style EMIT's. Not the small round EMIT-R.

I own the 3006's that Stereofanboy sold me...

I really like em. Smooth top end...little bass heavy...

I was surprised and impressed by a pair of 1990s CS-3008s I once owned.
The bulid quality was excellent as with the IMG cone drivers as well.
As a reference I thought they outdid my ADS 1290s and as far the the EMIT-R tweeter goes its a very good high frequency driver and the same design used in the upscale Genesis line.

I smell something burning. :D
Don't sweat. I'm just saying what I read in some threads.
I never heard EMIT personally.

I see. Thanks for info.
CS-3008's are huge compared to CS-3006 so definitely won't compare against 1290's but I have L620's that I can compare with. :scratch2:

sharp isn't how i'd describe it, accurate is better, airy, but not sharp.

emits don't hurt my ears like some horns do, (which I won't mention) or some metal domes do also.

The older EMITS are in higher demand, but to my ears, there's not much difference. The Crescendo series is a whole lot better (and more expensive) then the reference series you are talking about, although they look very similar.

Enjoy them, I love my 3009s, and loved my kappas, and love my brothers kappas, and really like my rs's, and love my Qa's ..... ... ...

The only Infinity I ever heard I didn't care for was the SM series. boomy and loud, but no control or refinement was my opinion.

I'll just say that if you like what you hear, and ever get a chance to score the big boy of the lineup, the CS-3009. You will not be disappointed ! Probably the best sleeper buy in the used market.

thanks jazzman. more accurate with better definition was what i was looking to use. Im comparing it to the same tweeter as used in the s2EE. the emit is a bright tweeter. i like em that way. But it has a clarity to it.

For the sake of accurate archiving let's please officially identify this statement as patently false so anyone researching the Rsb won't be misinformed. The RSb and its big brother the RSM are extremely nice loudspeakers. I have both and they can hold their own just fine against more expensive models in my collection. Every EMIT I've heard from early square chrome plated face on up has proven to be a very nice sounding tweeter.

i think you will like your crescendos, and the emit will be a game-changer. it can be hard to go back to a "regular" tweeter after you've had an emit.

the crescendos are similar to the reference series of the same period. both model lines used injection molded graphite cones on woofers and mids, and an emit-r tweeter. both series like power and sound best with 100 watts or more. don't believe the published specs re: low watts. i wouldn't even consider driving them with less than 60.

differences are:

crescendos are 8 ohm and reference series are 6 ohm.
crescendos are bi-ampable and reference series are not.
crescendos are ported and reference series are not.
crescendos have real wood veneer and reference series have wood-grained vinyl.

crescendos were a line developed exclusively for circuit city. they are popular with many. especially those who like a bass-forward sound. personally, i find the crescendo's ported cabinets make the bass a bit boomy to my ears, and i prefer the bass presentation of the reference series which i find to be tighter and more accurate (i have reference five 3-ways and reference six 4-ways). mids and highs are great on both series.

as for the components, all emits sound great. the emit-r is a radial version that has a much better dispersion pattern than the rectangular type (which are very beamy). the injection molded graphite cones are infinity's best effort and were only discontinued due to cost. the img is far superior to the much-touted polypropylene cones. img cones are stiffer. they don't degrade from contact with air, and so become cloudy and brittle like infinity's poly drivers do. the cabinets are definitely better on the crescendos and account for much their higher original retail (and resale) price.

lots of spare parts around for both series, but be aware that, although they look the same, components are not interchangeable between the crescendo and reference series. if necessary, always replace a bad driver with the same part number. when buying a re-foam kit, ask if the glue will work on img (some glues won't stick to img).

Thanks for chiming in fellas.
Okay so Rsb is not bad. :thmbsp:

Can anyone check if their original surrounds were thin/soft or thicker/stiffer please?
I have some generic ones that I can use immediately.

Thanks for details loquatious.

I agree with tom, Even the lowly RSa is a very nice speaker. The only pair of speakers my kids ever applauded to while listening to music.

My apologies for being a bit snarky before.
Hope you enjoy your new speakers!
