Infinity Kappa 7.1: repair or replace Denon POA 2800 amp?

This is my first post so please bear with me. I love music but am not a gear head by any means so suggestions that involve multimeters and Detoxit are probably non-starters for me.

I have Infinity Kappa 7.1 Series ii speakers driven by a Denon POA 2800 amplifier, all of which are about 25 years old. Recently the amp started producing muffled, static-y sound through the left channel. I used the toilet paper tube test (thank you, akforum) to verify that all three speaker drivers were in this condition. I reversed the connection to several sources and nothing changed. Then I switched the wires to the amp and the problem moved to the right channel proving that the fault was in the amp.

I have a highly regarded audio tech nearby (Dave Roome at AVS Audio in Torrance, CA) and he says he will look at the amp for $85 which would be applied to a repair if one is possible. My question is whether I should pursue repair or look for a new amp. The Denon is kind of a beast with 350 watts per side into 4 ohms so my inclination is to fix it. If your advice is to dump it, what would be a reasonable replacement?

By the way, I posted in the speaker forum because the Kappas are power hungry.

The Kappa x.1 series is not particularly power hungry. I have 6.1, 7.1 and 8.1, and all of them are being driven by AVRs. I suppose if you regularly listen at concert-level, you'd need a lot of power, but in general these don't have any special power requirements.
 
They are not power hungry, but I guarantee you they sound better the better the power you supply them with. The first time I hooked my Carver M 1.5t up to my 7.1s was an absolute 'A-Ha!' moment, instead of the Yamaha DSP A-1000 I'd been driving them with.(300 wpc vs 100 wpc)

So, OP, I'd get the denon fixed, if (and I have no direct experience with that amp) you like it, instead of buying and hooking up a lesser amp.
 
Often, a problem like this opens the door for an improvement. I owned the POA-2400 for many years. If it's anything like the POA-2800, you can do a lot better.

Treat yourself to a new power amp and rediscover your collection all over again. As for which one, well that's the next thread.

What was the issue? I just got one, and it's working fine. I'm in southern california too.
