Infinity Kappa 8's upgrade to Kappa 9's, worth it??

I picked up a pair of PERFECT Kappa 8 speakers this past weekend for an insanely great price. The woofs need to be refoamed. Replacing the surrounds is easy. The polydomes are OK.. There is a pair of Kappa 9 cabinets in FL for around $170 right now.

Would it be worth it to get the Kappa 9 cabinets, two more woofs, two super tweets and use my Kappa 8's as donors to build Kappa 9's??

Are the crossovers for the Kappa 9's and Kappa 9's identical?

All I can tell you is that the crossovers are different - you're talking four way vs. five way and one woofer vs two.

Lotta work for probably not a big gain in performance. You'll need two more woofers and 4 SEMITs, neither of which show up for sale all that often. The K9 crossovers are quite different from the K8, so you'd need two of those as well. If the K8's are in such great condition, I'd say keep and enjoy them as they are.

You`ll also need an arc welder of an amplifier to drive them too

Don't do it, Man! Why butcher a perfectly good set of 8's just to open a can of worms? You'll need drivers, a crossover, and who knows what else. Enjoy your Kappa speakers in peace.

Also realize that K8's can sound better than K9's in certain rooms with less powerful amps. K9's need both room and power to reach their potential.

Thanks everyone. I'll refoam the K 8's this week and keep them as-is. I have a 200wpc Denon POA-2200 to drive them.

I've always been more of an a/d/s person but have to admit that when I look at all of the engineering that went into these-especially the drivers, it's impressive!.

My target speakers are the Siegfried Linkwitz designs. I think that Kappa 8's will give me a good baseline to compare them.
